    So you think there are no stupid questions? I may have one...

    Can a person who is a convicted felon borrow/rent a firearm at a range or private club?

    It seems to me that a convicted felon cannot touch a firearm under any conditions, but I just wanted to verify it.

    Mere possession of a firearm by a convicted felon is against the law. Now, is shooting someone else's firearm while they are present (same goes for using a range weapon at the range) constitute possession?

    I have never "rented" a gun at a range before. Do they do background checks to see if you are legally allowed to handle the gun?

    the range i go to.. they make you fill out a form and hold your dl/id.. dont know about doing a quick background checks.

    Wow! So the majority of states have either no photo ID or no ID at all. Seems like little chance for voter fraud there! Just what any good Democrat would want-----votes for everybody!!

    This chart alone makes a good case for a simple point--all eligible voters should vote, but only eligible voters; once eligibility is established, voter ID needs to be established to make the vote valid. It's not rocket science and the politicians that fight against voter ID do so only because of the number of fraudulent votes they're afraid they'll lose. Racism is just a red herring......

    BTW, great photo--I'm rooting for the dog!

    Yeah, just about every gun range in Maryland I have been to thus far, I think 3 has had some sort of paperwork declaring you are not a felon, including writting down your drivers liselcrnse number.

    Do indoor ranges send this paperwork to police to look over?

    Doubt it, but even if they do, don't think any of the LEO agencies have the resources to see if felons go to gun ranges. It would be more practical to know if they actually get possession/ownership of guns out on the streets.

    Do not possess means do not possess.

    I'll leave it at that.

    I have looked up the meaning of the word possess in a few different dictionaries. The main meaning seems to be "to have as one's property; own."

    The only place I see reference to just "have" or "hold" is when a Thesaurus is involved.

    Not sure who you will summons from Webster to help in your legal case.

    To have in your possession does not mean, in the legal sense, to own.

    Here's what the law doesn't say possess...it says "receive":

    by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year;

    substance (as defined in section 102 of the Controlled Substances
    Act (21 U.S.C. 802));
    (4) who has been adjudicated as a mental defective or who has
    been committed to a mental institution;
    (5) who, being an alien -
    (A) is illegally or unlawfully in the United States; or
    (B) except as provided in subsection (y)(2), has been
    admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa (as
    that term is defined in section 101(a)(26) of the Immigration
    and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(26)));
    (6) who has been discharged from the Armed Forces under
    dishonorable conditions;
    (7) who, having been a citizen of the United States, has
    renounced his citizenship;
    (8) who is subject to a court order that -
    (A) was issued after a hearing of which such person received
    actual notice, and at which such person had an opportunity to
    participate;
    (B) restrains such person from harassing, stalking, or
    threatening an intimate partner of such person or child of such
    intimate partner or person, or engaging in other conduct that
    would place an intimate partner in reasonable fear of bodily
    injury to the partner or child; and
    (C)(i) includes a finding that such person represents a
    credible threat to the physical safety of such intimate partner
    or child; or
    (ii) by its terms explicitly prohibits the use, attempted
    use, or threatened use of physical force against such intimate
    partner or child that would reasonably be expected to cause
    bodily injury; or
    (9) who has been convicted in any court of a misdemeanor crime
    of domestic violence,
    to ship or transport in interstate or foreign commerce, or possess
    in or affecting commerce, any firearm or ammunition; or to receive
