If the parts interchange, then it's still banned. Doesn't matter if it's named on the list. It'll still fail the copycat test.

It has to be 100% part interchangeable with the "Barrett Light 50".

How do exchange parts with a firearm that was never made?

Not much different from banning every single semiautomatic rifled long arm ever manufactured by Bushmaster Firearms, no matter what design the rifle is. It will be interesting to see what, if anything, the company that bought the Bushmaster brand does about MDSP's odd interpretation of the law.

Following just because I know this has come up before. I don't think it should be banned, but I'm not MSP interpreting or our goofy lawmakers. :)

Barrett never made a light fifty but the M82 was referred to by that name by the military. I went down this road when I bought my m95. This is a slippery slope I wasn’t willing to go down even though I had a dealer that would do the transfer. To me it wasn’t worth it. MD would be more than happy to make an example of you if they think you violated their BS list.

Unfortunately for us, Barrett Firearms referred to it as the Light Fifty in marketing in the 1980s or so.

Old documentary-type shows on the Discovery Channel also use the phrase “light Fifty” when referring to the Barrett. Mac with Future Weapons, for instance. Shows that rank “top ten sniper rifles”, etc... also called it the Light Fiddy once or twice.

I was in the market for a semi Barrett .50 also 3 years ago. No dealer will even entertain the idea of splitting hairs with MSP over the issue. I called everywhere. The only thing close to the Barrett you can transfer in MD is the Serbu BFG 50A. I settled and got a M99.

get it some how...they are fun...either one
but if you didn't get it before merryland did
the list..for those who were lucky ..:D:D
got plenty of brass LC, bullets...etc managed
to land a few special rounds pre-covie, they
be got a green tip. Finding a place to shoot it
is a feat in itself, private land is the best, some
places don't like the 338 LM either.

as DA..noted..." He was shooting a very old SLAP round that failed."
of unknown origin, condition, storage etc. even I wouldn't shoot it

these would of "been" fun to try but...

It's a LOT different, like apples and pineapples different.

Since there is an AG letter that states that it has to be 100% parts compatible to be a copy, if just on e screw is off, no copy of an enumerated banned firearm.

The Bushmaster thing is a completely different issue and Remington didn't do shit about it, and won't.

Not in the late 80's (when the name was used on the California list) or mid 90's (when Maryland copied California's 39 items the first list).

It wasn't until the late 90's early 2000's that it was referred to (outside of the military) as the "light 50". Context and timing has meaning.

This is a Barrett ad from the 80s, judging from the no vent holes on the M82A1, and the Vietnam-Era helmet on the soldier testing it.

HOWEVER, It all depends on how they were marked on the receiver.

    Guys…. Get a SERBU BFG50A!
I have one…… they are a blast! Shoots softer than a .308 bolt gun…… more accurate than a Barret…….. and cost less!
Only downside is that it doesn’t break down like a Barret (it’s 52” OAL!)

I bought an m82 the day before they banned them just because Duffys had one in stock and I hate when people tell me I can’t own something.

I’ve only shot it 4 times. I actually just broke down and spent 3k on an optic setup this week.

    I don’t regret my purchase.
