I'm waiting on a response at the minimal clearance required but figured I would put this out there if there is anyone with an IT background with a TS/SCI and poly looking for work or a change. I can get into more detail but there are open spots from tier 1 helpdesk, installers, all the way to tier 3 engineers and such.

    PM if you're interested.

Ok, I checked at a TS/SCI with CI is needed for all positions at a minimum. Most positions require a full scope poly.

:lol2: They're always looking for previously cleared people, along with every other IT group working for DoD/IC agencies. Especially with that clearance level.

How do you get a clearence when company's these days only hire people that already have a clearence?

It can be a pita. Sometimes you have to have a really beefy skill set they want, or sometimes be willing to work an undesirable job. Frankly, I am not really sure. If you are really sharp I think companies see sponsoring you as an investment.

You need the right skill set for work that an agency or mil considers a priority. You'll be fast tracked through the process in a few months.

Pretty much this. I'm not in IT but I have the right skill set for my office. I was fast tracked in about two months whereas a co-worker (without the desired skills) waited almost a year before being cleared.
In addition, my office has another guy with a very low clearance who does the same job as I do...with a much higher clearance. Thing is-they really wanted him. He was already in house doing some BS admin job and they wanted to move him to the back where I work. So that leads me to believe that a clearance isn't really necessary if they want you bad enough.

In some cases but not here. A TS/SCI is needed at a minimum. CI poly for a small group of jobs. 99% of the jobs at the agency require a TS/SCI with full scope polygraph which is dictated by the customer. This is the IT side. Sure some of the administration jobs might not require such.

It really comes down to money. It can cost over $75 grand for a company to get someone fully cleared hence why they want previously cleared people.

I'm not admin and don't work in an admin function.

Companies don't pay for the check, the government does. My current company put me in for a TS as the Army needs my skill set and the job requires the clearance level.

I guess it depends where and what level. I could see the Army picking up the tab on a small contract. NSA, CIA, etc. not so much. The companies usually pay. I'm no expert but that's usually what I've seen.

It's not that unusual for a customer (agency, mil, or prime) to pick up the tab to prevent delays. Happens if the customer has extra "use it or lose it" money and needs fast delivery. It's more common when fast delivery means the customer gets a bigger spending budget next fiscal year.

I found the polygraph info to be help. I'm ETSing from the Army in May & I'm looking for a systems administrator job in the Meade area. I used to have a CI poly but it expired in August of 2014. Since my CI poly expired there are plenty of positions I'm qualified for but I'm not being considered because my polygraph expired.

You should be able to get a job supporting DISA with your current clearance. What kind of SA are you?
