I'm starting the year off right with some fat yellow perch. Three of us caught close to 200 this morning. :party29:

Man you're getting some mileage out of this picture! :D

Now that my gear is thawing out, my gloves smell like fish again...On the plus side, my ice fishing layering system got a good trial run this morning!

First step of the 2017 season - getting the oil changed before hauling it until March. We sure picked a perfect day for it - 19 degrees and snowing.

Out perch fishing with shaddydan and ran into this guy. We also found plenty of perch, crappie, some more bass, one very cold little sunfish, and Dan caught a striper.

What sweater is that? Looks like wool. If so it's just what I've been looking for.

It is wool, it's a Lester River Bushcraft Boreal Shirt. Pricey, but they are pretty much bombproof. We don't get a lot of serious cold around here, but those guys in Minnesota wear them in camping in -30*F temps. I like it because makes the perfect cold weather outer layer for me - it's big enough to go over all of the other layers with no restriction in movement. Under that was the top of my bibs, a nano puff jacket, a deadbird vest, a fleece quarter zip, a heavy thermal base layer, and a wool t-shirt.

There are other, less-expensive wool boreal-type shirts out there, but I don't have any personal experience with any of them.

Took my son out on the Monocacy, last Saturday. He caught a nice Creek Chub.

#1 son is at bushwood right now fishing for cats, so of course he just texted me a photo of a rockfish he just caught.

    That's a nice fish.
I had no idea Loch Raven was open all winter.
