I have a few buddies late to the game, and they are looking for an AR. I'd guess anything that would be available would work. Obviously an IP would be best, but money savings trumps all, as I'm sure the price is going up and up...

Bass Pro doesn't carry AR's anymore. United is also in Rockville and 2A is just up 95 in Jessup.

A-1 is bird flight closest .

Of the current triumvirate of rock bottom prices , Gym Ratz will be closest, maybe 1:20 drive time .

Engage for top quality.

The others in post #13 are well regarded on MDS , no personal experience .

If overall distance is a concern, Tyler Firearms is just up the way in Halethorpe.

IP and Veteran owned.

A1, Engage are fairly close. Next closest would be South Carroll Sporting goods at 45 minutes.

JLOWES cannot be beat price wise, but a fair bit up the road.
