I inherited a Pre 64 Winchester Model 70 chambered in 6mm-06 from a friends estate several years ago. I originally put the rifle up for sale along with most of his estate.
It didn't seem to get any interest until I mentioned it to a coworker. He wanted to shoot it before buying. We met up at the range and got set up to put a few rounds down range at 25 yards to check the zero. I shot the first shot and it was dead nuts. We moved the target out to 100 yards and he fired the second shot. It went practically in the same hole. I'm sure everyone is going sure that was a fluke or just a lucky shot. We thought the same thing. Just for giggles we moved the target out to 200 yards. Another co worker wanted to take the third shot. The look on our faces when we inspected the target and saw all three holes touching I still have the target! (a photo uploaded for proof)
It goes without saying that he was sold and was ready to buy the rifle for the full asking price. As usual I asked for his drivers license to make a copy and fill out the bill of sale. That's when I realized that we had a problem. He was an Ohio resident, and the transfer had to go through an FFL in OH. He refused to complete the sale. I wasn't upset about it at all and happily kept the rifle.
Unfortunately I am running low on the wildcat handloads (came with the rifle) and do not have the load data to make more. Wildcats really don't interest me so I don't really want to work up the load.
So here's the question. I am thinking about having the rifle re-barreled. What caliber would everyone suggest. I want something with longer legs then a .308 Win that will make sense in a long action rifle.
