13 year old boy was live streaming while showing off a semi-automatic pistol he had acquired from a friend. While inserting the mag, inadvertently pulled the trigger and shot himself.

I guess we can never have too many safety reminders like this.

I cant help thinking that while sad for his family, this outcome is better than if he had accidentally or intentionally killed someone else.

whether guns, motorcycles, chain saws, etc, you have to respect dangerous tools and machinery. an instant of bravado or carelessness or just stupidity and things can change quickly. sad for the family.

Jeff Coopers rules need to be drilled in to any kid where a gun is in the house, as an adjunct to don't touch it.

Holy crap that sucks. Bad parenting. I didn't read anything in the article about a father...

He got the gun from a friend.
This is not an accident due to a legal unsecured gun in a home.

Sad. Teenage boys do a lot of foolish things. Unfortunately this one lost his life doing it. Sad.

I agree completely. Have to be engaged with the young even more nowadays.

In the article I read, it stated that the parents tried to monitor his on line activity, but that they can make so many accounts so quickly. Also, it sounds like tracking the gun may be a bit of a pain since he supposedly "got it from a friend" who "got it from a friend."

They really need to stop handing out HQLs to 13 year olds. :sarcasm:

Exactly this! I'd also add that the MSP officer on duty should be reprimanded for not noticing that the applicant's age listed on the 77r was below legal age to own a handgun.

A damned shame. I'd venture there are more than a few of us out there who did some spectacularly stupid shit as teenagers and are lucky to be around today. Unfortunately, that was the last mistake that kid got to made.

    Firearm safety is everyone's business.

This!! I still thank my lucky stars and then hyper-ventilate thinking about all the what-ifs. My OCD kills me like that.
