Finally got my hands on a GSR.... and actually found 308 ammo... now to outfit it with a scope and start having fun.

How many others are into scout type rifles?

Beautiful , what does that shoot? are those .45-70's? mine is .30-30. :party29:

edit: are those .410 shells? does that shoot those as well?

Hard to be sure on my phone's little screen but the red plastic you see is most likely a holding piece that the rifle cartridges are in inside the box, not shotgun shells.

    It's a Marlin 1895G "Guide Gun" in .45-70.
Those are Federal 300 gr JHP in the photo, but, I shoot 405 gr LWNGC 'boolits' at about 1660 fps.
This load is easy on the shoulder, but, delivers a whole lot of 'whoop-butt'.

    Here's the boolit I use:

Ruger Gunsite, Savage, and the SA M1A SOCOM or Scout Squad are def on my "must have" list. M1A prices are crazy... the mags are $100 plus these days. What optics you going with on your GSR?

I have the Ruger Gunsite Scout. I absolutely love it. For me it is perfect for whitetail in the mountains back home in Virginia. It handles great. The balance make it shoulder and swing like a good shotgun. I have the Burris 2.75 Scout Scope on it (the Leupold would be great too). It is almost perfect for this rifle. Would love to see a true scout scope adjustable from 1 - 4 power on it. As far as the iron sights on it, I'm a fan of the ghost ring. It was a little "gritty" at first operating the bolt, but is smoothing out nicely. Best group with hand loads is .645" at 100 yards with a 3x9 scope. I need to chrono it.

Would I buy it again? You bet.
