    Big News!

    New Announcement from Project Appleseed:

We are pleased to roll out the Appleseed "Distinguished Rifleman" designation.
The DISTINGUISHED rocker will be awarded to shooters who score a 230 or higher using iron sights (240 or higher using optics) on the Appleseed Qualification Test (AQT).
Everyone wants that Rifleman patch... and now there’s an opportunity to join us on the line again for some extra recognition.

Two other new "Rockers" that can be earned:
Ready for a Known Distance (KD) event? We’ve got new Known Distance rockers as well.
Find a KD near you here.

And if you’re really motivated, why not try for that elusive Perfect 250? We’ve got a rocker for that too! (In several years of instructing, I've only seen it happen twice)

    See below for pictures!

Check out the schedule for an event near you!

Can I post here? I want to attend Appleseed. I need to get a sling on my 22 to make it work for this. I'm in Washington county so sites at major Maryland cities are hard for me. I do it for my CFI because I have to. I'll keep watching as I work towards attaining this new goal.

Project Appleseed events in all 50 States!

    Kagetsu,
If Annapolis or Marriotsville is a little too far for you, keep an eye on the West Virginia Project Appleseed events, new ones should be posted soon.

There is a range in Kearneysville, WV (Leetown Gun Club) that hosts Appleseeds, that seems pretty close to Washington County, MD.

We have loaner slings, too, so don't let that stop you from coming out.

I am typically the Shoot Boss that supports that range, please feel free to PM me if I can be of further assistance.

Hope to see you on the line soon!

Great event, despite the cold, morning snow, and cold (did I mention it was cold?). Really appreciated the history and marksmanship lessons. So close to qualifying, yet so far...looking forward to the next event. Will you be posting pictures somewhere?

These are great events teaching American History and marksmanship. I've been to three events and plan to attend 1 or 2 this coming year. Looking for the KD in Sudlersville but nothing posted as of now.

I and a few others at my club expressed an interest in the Appleseed project. Thinking it was a great program. Eventually, my club expressed an interest in hosting an APPLESEED event, and I even got informally nominated to be the co-coordinator. Then the club unnecessarily voted to cut membership by 200 members, indicating they were not serious about passing on a tradition of 2A and firearm ownership and safety to anyone but themselves and their close friends and family. Sad, very sad! Kudos to the Appleseed program.

That is very sad Gryphon. I understand the exclusivity of clubs to some degree - they are communities and a huge influx of new members can be disruptive to culture. But I do not understand exclusivity to the degree that locks a club into a death spiral in terms of age and enthusiasm. Appleseed was a great way to be reintroduced to AAFG, where I learned to shoot as a kid thanks to a very generous Scout leader. I otherwise would have had no exposure to the second amendment and firearms, two significant passions today. I hope we don't lose sight of our long term obligations to the founding fathers.

    Annapolis One-Day Appleseed event 13JAN18

Three experienced Appleseeders (Ray, Ash, and Andrew), and two first-timers (Jim and Shawn) braved the (very) cold and windy day at the Anne Arundel Fish and Game (AAFG) Conservation Association in Annapolis, MD, for a 1-Day Project Appleseed Rifle Marksmanship Clinic.

After the introductions, four key questions, and safety brief, we went right into the first Redcoat target, and we were excited to see everyone pretty close! As went into the history of April 19th, 1775 during our telling of the "First Strike" of the match, it started snowing! The Winterseed patch now being an option, students were eager to get to shooting... it was onto prone Steady-Hold Factors (SHF) and putting sighters on the Squares target... and WOW, after a few sighters we were there... this being a One-day event, it was time to move right into Standing and Seated/Kneeling SHF on the Grenadiers (Green Targets), as this group was ready for it!
After some more history at lunch (Second Strike), "I have not a man that is afraid to go!" - (Students were really engaged with the history) we got back to marksmanship training . We noticed mag changes were a little challenged, so we ran some mag-change drills during Stage 2 & 3 practice. Huge improvement! As instruction wrapped up, we moved into our first practice Appleseed Qualification Test (AQT).
First-timer Jim came very close with a 200, and the rest of the shooters had parts of their targets that were very good, but needed to get all 4 stages together. After another regular AQT - same results, close, but no cigar. After the telling of the Third Strike and wrapping up the history, we then did our last Redcoat of the day, framed the weekend, and cleaned up.
Unfortunately, no new Riflemen, but I'm sure they will be back, because:
    A Rifleman Persists!
Thank you very much to our host range, the Anne Arundel Fish and Game (AAFG) Conservation Association. Check out their website http://www.aafg.org

And last but not least, many thanks to my fellow instructors Etervigila and Aninha. Our Instructor's hard work, and professional demeanor made this a safe and fun shoot.

For more information on future events, you can go back to the top of this thread (Pg 1) or visit the Project Appleseed website.

Just signed up the nephew and myself for Sanners on Founders Weekend. It will be nice to be outside this time, hopefully in good weather! Kudos to the cold weather 'seeders, but that's one patch I won't be getting. :outta her

    Trailtoy,
    Glad to hear it!

For folks new to Project Appleseed -
Not only do we teach Rifle marksmanship; we teach what happened on April 19th, 1775.
Don't know what happened on that day? Come to a Project Appleseed Rifle Marksmanship clinic!

Special things and extra swag are given out on the events closest to April 19th...
    "Patriot's Day"

There's one in Annapolis the weekend before - Annapolis April 14-15, 2018

There's one in Lexington Park the weekend after - SLSC Lexington Park 21-22 April, 2018

And for those of you up near the WV border, keep an eye on their events, maybe one there.

    See you on the line!
