I got this for Christmas last year and finally got around to completing the kit. Now to take it to the range for a test.

I finished up bluing the barrel last night. I just finished lubing and assembling the pistol. I think it turned out pretty well. These kits are not for the inexperienced woodworker. Nothing really at all fits out of the box. All pieces need to be fit. I needed chisels, a drill press, hand drill, band-saw, files, rasps, etc. I (blue) loctited all the screws. Also neither sight was tight I used loctite on them hopefully they will stay on. The gun is finished with an ebony stain and 5 coats of satin polyurethane.

Looks like the site crashed and they restored from backup my comments is gone. Oh well.

When I put on the lock/trigger I just oiled it up with gun lube. I was wondering though if I should put grease in the lock springs. Anyone know for sure?

    Looks good.

I didn't grease the springs on the rifles I built. I simply coated the lock and trigger parts with CLP. That seems to work just fine.

I see you filed down the thimble screw tips. They come too long so it's a must. Another way to fit them is to install the thimbles on the final assembly and add a drop of Loctite to the screws. Then file the tips with a small half round file.

A good way to tighten the sights in their dovetails is to peen the edges of the barrel dovetail above the sight bases down slightly so you get a better grasp by the barrel on them.

Looking forward to a range report!

    :)

Thank you! I am trying to figure out what primer to get but I don't see that in the instructions. I says the type of powder and all but not the primer. Does the type primer matter or can I just get a "box" of percussion cap primers?

#11 CCI percussion caps should work fine on your Traditions pistol build.

In addition to the correct powder and a way to measure your load, you should also have some basic BP loading and cleaning tools on hand: Nipple wrench (that fits); patches and balls that will give you the best accuracy together; a nipple pick; a ball puller (in case you need to pull a ball out) and a few other accoutrements.

Shooting BP is a ton of fun. But don't be surprised if you experience some misfires - especially at first. If this is your first BP experience, I highly recommend reading, watching YouTube videos and learning a lot so you know what's coming your way.

AND: Please correctly clean your pistol ASAP after shooting BP! You'll be glad you did...

    :)
