I'm going through the IVF process with my wife right now and they don't select for anything other than chromosomal defects and gender, since the 23rd pair of chromosomes determines sex. It's after implantation during pregnancy that they can look at genetic traits and that still won't determine IQ. So long story short I believe you are incorrect in your statement.

No, I think you don't understand the terms. And you simply may not have been offered some of the most current tests -- which absolutely can and do look at and select for factors that affect IQ

Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) at a glance
Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) examines embryos during in vitro fertilization (IVF) before possible transfer to a woman’s uterus for a range of genetic problems that can cause implantation failure, miscarriage and birth defects in a resulting child.
These genetic defects include a missing or an extra chromosome in the embryo (for example, Down syndrome), single gene disorders (like sickle cell anemia), or the rearrangement of genes, which can cause pregnancy loss and birth defects.
We use three specific types of PGT, which is a new term encompassing the same functions as the previously named and more well-known preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) and preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) embryo genetic tests.
Embryologists use PGT to find genetic defects in embryos during IVF, so those embryos will not be transferred to the woman’s uterus to achieve a pregnancy.

PGT-M testing is for several disease, some of which absolutely are assciated with genetic driven lower IQ

So there are quite a few chromosomal and other genetic tests already in use for a number of genetic conditions known to result in lower IQ. And the point is they will look for more and more, and there are published papers every year that center on this issue.

If you want a popular book by an expert, read: "The End of Sex" bv Henry Greely. He is at Stanford and the national expert on biomedical/ethical and legal issues in this field. It is on amazon, or you can search podcasts and listen to a number of interviews he has given.

Essentially it started existing pre-implantation testing for Downs (which sure as heck does profoundly reduce IQ), and now singe gene ones for other conditions know to affect IQ. So right now IVF involves deleting/not-implanting fertilized embryos for a number of genetic conditions know to lower IQ.

in future this can (and will) involve looking genetic analysis of your pool of pre-implant IVF fertilized eggs and also selecting for the profiles that show not just the presence of genetic markers known to decrease IQ -- but for presence of genes that indicate higher than average IQ and pick those eggs. Soon it will be full genetic panels -- there is evidence they are doing this in china now.

And soon after that we will be using CRISPR type technology to simply edit/make the gene in the egg to eliminate low IQ genes or to edit in higher IQ genes

There is a double driver effect when it comes to this.

1 One one hand low IQ children have social cost (increased crime commission as IQ lower is one) at some point a very high social cost. If IVF with full gene panel drops to $20k cost, but if you can eliminate the embryos that result in 1% of the population have a genetic defect that costs $2,000,000 lifetime to support you are at break even.

    2) On the other hand high IQ give a social benefit.

The first society that pushes up average IQ by say 20 points will dominate societies that do not.

if you can take a society that averages 100 IQ and reduce births that are 80 you remove a lot of social costs. Alternately if you can average push IQ up by 15 points you are going to have 10x the number of 170 IQ persons who are top in math and science and huge increases in 130 who are top productive. You will also be vastly decreasing the 75 IQ cohort which generally cost society quite a bit in today's social welfare societies (costs) and tech based (benefit from high iq persons)

There are a number of scientists who posit that modern society and specialization have stalled human evolution. There is evidence averse brain size, which does correlate wiht average IQ likely has decreased slightly in the past 10,000 years -- after millions of years of increasing brain size in hominids.

There is nothing in the history of life -- not a thing -- more competitive than reproduction and insuring the most capable offspring. The idea that anyone will stop the use of tech in it is ludicrous. in fact some scientists think it is the only thing that stands a chance of prevent humans from being dominated by AI since normal human brain evolution is very slow and may be at present stalled.

11 yr old murderer has been arrested
    Press release on twitter

    11 year old's

Sadly there are 11-year-old murderers, but just to be clear, this case is the murder of an 11-year-old whose suspected murderer has been arrested.

Shady grove only looks at chromosomal abnormalities which would result in the child having birth defects or not result in a full term pregnancy which is the PGT-A. The two other tests can be offered if there are certain known diseases in the family, but typically they only do the PGT-A. That is all I know. Obviously a downs child will have a lower IQ but we wouldn't choose that embryo.

I wish you and your wife every success. It's saddening to ponder all the "abortions for convenience" that take place while others have to struggle so hard to conceive. God speed...

Back to the thread - I seem to remember a similar shooting of a child in Baltimore. EVERY YEAR. At least one can obtain permission to carry in DC, so there's a chance for self defence.
