Was cleaning the 10/22 this morning after having not really shot it enough to clean it for a while.

Naturally, because this thing is like a jigsaw puzzle that requires 3 hands to disassemble and reassemble and it had been a while, damned if I didn't start to wiggle the bolt carrier out and whoosh parts shot all the way across the basement.

Found the guide rod. No sign of the spring.

I feel like Bill Ruger sat around 40 years and thought to himself, "motherfvckers, I'll make sure you remember me every time you clean this rifle" and then let out a Dr. Evil laugh.

What a love/hate relationship with this rifle. :sad20:

Let's see you reassemble one of his Mark I , II, or III .22 pistols.

I did it once, back in 1984.

Yeah - I had one of those two for a while until I decided the frustration wasn't worth it.

It's almost as if Bill Ruger said, "Oh you think a 1911 is complicated? Hold my beer and go get me a pencil. You haven't seen shit yet."

Ah, ol' Bill was just a funny sort of fella!

He once watched guys picking up their brass, and thought he'd make his Mini-14 to throw their beloved brass cases into the next zip code.

    He's probably still laughing!

I dread cleaning my 10/22's. Know of someone with a ultrasonic cleaner big enough for the entire rifle.... thinking about giving it a shot stock and all being its composite stock.

Years ago, I invested in a strong magnet on a stick. Whenever I fire a part across the room, out comes the magnet and up comes the part. At least in theory.

I know the pain of a MIII/IV. I'll never take that thing apart again.

Guess I take mine apart so much that they are easy to disassemble and assemble.

Exactly the last time I dissembled mine.
I won't make that mistake again.
Thousands of rounds of dirty thunderbolts through it and it still goes bang.

That's about the last time my old man broke his down too

    It's a generational thing.

Each new generation comes along and has to find its own way. Pop did it, and when it was over, vowed to never do it again.

Young and rebellious, you were determined to show him, and you try it yourself...and vow to never make that mistake again.

    Your son comes along and...

I have a magnet, but apparently I shot it into a parallel universe. Guess I will order one tonight.

usually the spring on the guide rod doesnt come off? Ive never had one of mine come off, but I also never tried to take the spring off the guide rod. You will find the spring in a couple years when you go to clean it again ;) I didnt think the 10/22 was that difficult to clean but the ruger mark 1,2,3 etc arent too bad once you know how to reassemble it ;)

Usually disassembly isn't bad with the rifle, but assembly is a bitch.

what I get for cleaning guns at 0500.
