Here is a chance to see what actually happens when you pull the trigger on an M1. Be sure to compare these with the last one down which is shown in real time.

Awesome to watch. John Garand was a genius of the first order...he not designed the rifle but the tooling to properly manufacture it. US Rifle M1...the most magnificent rifle ever made. It may be obsolete in today's military world but that takes nothing from it in design, performance and history.

Its always a blast to see videos like this or the ones where its an animation of the internal components working in a cut away.

As InRange said on a recent “bolt guns are obselete” video, “if you’ve got at least an m1 Garand, it might be old and it might be obselescent, but it isn’t obselete and you wouldn’t be ridiculously out gunned. You take on a modern squad with a bolt gun and you are going to get off one shot and just be overwhelmed with return fire. With a Garand, you could at least “blaze away” while that clip listed and rinse and repeat with every reload. It’s hard (because of recoil), but you can walk fire on someone running, etc.

There was a reason Germans organized their units around the machinegun and there is less emphasis on this today.

But yeah, for the time the Garand was amazing. Even today it is cool, fun and useful. Though it is prone to ingress of dirt and debris, not like any semi-auto of the time was all that good at being environmentally sealed.
