They are not usually ever shortly thereafter. They have those votes whenever and if the chairman wants, up to the last day of the session.

Best outcome for this one is to never have a vote. That's the goal.

maybe I am just confused then. I thought today was a hearing and testimony and then a vote will ensue shortly after?

Senate hearing was today, the voting session (if there is one) will be whenever they schedule one. It is my hope that it never makes it out of the desk drawer to receive a committee vote in either the Senate or the House.

Another thread stating they meant it to only apply to criminals. More detail on that thread along with the lunacy of the Senators.

Yes, and I will say the same thing here as there:

No matter the intent, this should be defeated. Even if amended, some retailers will no doubt think maryland banned magazine possession and stop selling them to Marylanders.

This is a retarded bill. Felons already cannot own guns or ammo. More laws are not the solution when prosecutors and judges are not keeping people behind bars in the first place.

AM 1090 this morning says Hogan is supportive of a bill banning bumpstocks and devices that increase rate of fire.

So does Trump and about half the Republican caucus.

The purpose of doing it through the ATF is that the legislative language is horrid and even worse.

Hopefully the ATF action moots the MD bill, because its awful.

The companion Bills are SB1062 in Senate , heard yesterday , 2/22 . HB 991 in House , hearing part of the Mega Hearing on 3/6 .

A Committee may have a Vote Whenever the Charman decides to . Could be 30sec after the Hearing formally ends , or Never .

Any Senator or Delegate can sponsor a Bill about anything , simply because they have a typewriter . ( Ok , have a staffer to tell the Department of Legislative Services to draft a Bill to do ( blah, blah ) using the usual language for minor details .)

Every single Bill introduced is assigned to at least one Committee for a hearing . If the Bill straddles different topics , somestines will be heard in two Committees .

The Sponsor will introduce the Bill to Committee , and pitch its purpose , and encourage the give Favorable recomendation .

Most Bills never leave a Committee . Many, if not most Bills never get a Committee vote . Most of the time in general because it isn't worthwhile , is stupid , or if several similar Bills on the same topic , a single one will be put foreward .

Only after a Bill is give Favorable Report from the respective Committee(s) does it go to the Main Chamber ( more about them & their procedures later ).

Occasionally the Committee Chair acts as a gatekeeper to either never call a vote , or call a vote at a specific time , for reasons of larger Political Strategy.

Of course. He wants another term, so he’s gotta fall into line like a good RINO.

Whatever his faults, it's important to consider the alternative.

Just as the 2A has been weakened by a century of progressive incrementalism, regaining a semblance of our rights will have to be achieved the same way. As distasteful as Hogan's reluctance to support us may be, he is in a far better position to advance our agenda than any Democrat in that office.

In order to have any effect on a legislature with a supermajority, in a state filled with rabid Alt-Left voters, he must compromise to retain his office. The next four years will find the governor's office taking a leading role in re-drawing boundaries for legislative districts.

This re-districting following the 2020 census is the best hope for returning enough Republicans to the legislature to be able to sustain the governor's veto, which is at present not possible. It's impossible to overstate the importance of this ability, so long as we have a Governor who differs with the General Assembly. (Again, useless if Hogan fails to be re-elected.)

The Perfect is the enemy of the Good. And despite the nattering of the Progressives, nothing in the area of human activity is perfect, especially in the political arena.
