my wife just forwarded me this, this happened to a woman she works with.

Please read this, even though this incident occurred in Glen Arm, it could happen anywhere. This same area also discovered several mail box bombs a few weeks ago, luckily they malfunctioned.

My son came close to being carjacked at gunpoint about 11:am today on

Manor Rd in Glen Arm. Because he was quick witted and observant, he

avoided what could have been a real tragedy.

Rob was going south on Manor Rd just south of Wineberry Ct. He

noticed a car pulled off the side of the road on his right. He almost

stopped to see if the 2 occupants needed help. The car then pulled

back on the road after Rob passed and came right up behind him

(dangerously close), then the car pulled back to a safe distance. In

the meantime, there was a car in front of Rob that was going very slow

and then stopped. Fortunately, Rob did no get too close to the car in

front of him. Rob then glanced in his rear view mirror and the driver

of the rear car had jumped out of his car, pulled a gun from his

waistband and was running towards Rob's car. Because Rob was not that

close to the car in front of him he was able to pull around the front

vehicle and speed away. The rear car was a white neon with a black

primered hood. It also had a closed fist with brass knuckles painted

on it. I am writing to you because we as agents drive quite a bit and

should be aware of our surroundings at all times. Also, never ever

let yourself get boxed in by 2 cars. Always leave enough room for the

car in front of you. If Rob had not done this, the outcome this

morning could have been tragically different.

    (they are health insurance agents)

That's a bad situation to be in. Stuff like this has happened to me, and nothing can help more than being aware of your surroundings at all times and knowing how to react when you need to react.

    Thanks for the info.

I gave my in-laws and some friends a heads up as they live in that area.

Thank god we live in a state that legally allows us to protect ourselves when things like this happen. :sad20:

As much as I think the state is very wrong in all 2nd A issues I can't imagine reaching for a gun first with those odds and being nearly pinned in.

I wonder why those idiots didn't shoot as he drove away, like any idiot would.

Scary stuff, glad he had room to get out.

I luckily drive a big truck so that would be a dumb thing to try. But I still always try and leave room to get around the car in front anyway and always watch my mirrors when sitting still. If all else fails it goes in 4 wheel drive and I push whatever is in my way out of the way.

Getting involved in a gunfight from inside your vehicle is not a wise thing to do if you have other options.

None of the Baltimore County police officers I run into on a regular basis know anything about this. Would you please find out what officers investigated this incident? It will be on the form given to your wife's acquaintance. With that, I'll be able to get more details for the board here.

I agree with you on MD laws. I think he did the exact right thing, but I think the point of the prior comment wasn't reaching for the gun first, but having it available if the options diminished to needing a last resort.

My first thought was that this was an internet hoax. I did a quick/cursory check on Snopes to be sure. Didn't find a match for this one .

I thought it better just to give the folks I know in that area a little reminder about SA... just in case.

There is no such thing as "too much" preparation and situational awareness.

Obviously, none of you guys are clued in to the REAL story behind this...we NEED to BAN all cars! They are to blame for causing the restless youth to engage in this type of anti-social behavior. :sad20:

Seriously, check out Crime Reports.com! Scary stuff...

Hence the reason my next vehicle will be a pick up truck with 4wd. Makes for a good daily driver and BOV.

Thanks for the heads up Firehawk, I travel through that area frequently.
