I got my .308 Bubba'd Argentine Mauser the yesterday. Not too bad I think. I plan to shoot plastic Nato 7.62 training rounds, and or low powered .308/7.62 rounds. Nothing to write home about, but should be a fun little rifle. I always loved the Argentines, and not having to buy 7.65 helps. Cycled some dummy rounds and seems to cycle, eject fine. Bore looks great. Chambered a laser bore sighter and the irons appear to be dead on across the room. I am happy with my new range toy.

Decided I am going to try to convert to 7.62x39. I bought a 5 round single stack AK magazine, and it fits the Mauser mag fine, just needs a spacer block. I put a 7.62x39 dummy round in the bolt face, and it holds and ejects fine. Need a chamber adapter and will give it a try.

Took it to the range yesterday, and shot 50rds of Nato 7.62 training rounds thru it. Shot well, just sometimes if you don't yank the bolt back hard enough, due to the lightweight of the cases, they just flop around and don't fling out all the way. Not the gun, the ammo. But shot really well, no probs. I knicked the orange paint off the front sight I put on there, so sighting was more difficult than than normal. But I was able to hit the gong regularly.

Thanks for posting this. That's very cool. It's a shame the rifle got Bubba'ed, but a lot of them did. It seems to have been a popular way to make Argentine hunting rifles.

My first 1891 Mauser was a bubba special, but I liked it. I actually bought this one BECAUSE it was bubba'd, or specifically rechambered for .308. The action is so smooth and crisp. The 7.65 is hard to find and rather pricey, and had a bunch of 7.62NATO. That said, if I found a non cut 1891 in .308 though, I'd rather have that. I have been debating getting a 1891 carbine.
