      Elk Neck State Forest Range

Then you are exactly the type of person the safety program is not looking for. We are not telling anyone what to do and we are not the 'authority', the focus is on shooter safety and educating patrons. If an individual chooses to not follow the rules after we point it out to them we call law...

      Elk Neck State Forest Range

Not sure what you mean by this but the volunteers will be acting on behalf of the state of Maryland. Volunteers will not be issued police powers; however they will be able to bring law enforcement in as a last resort to a range patron who chooses to not follow the rules, those who choose to not...

      Elk Neck 11/28 Bad Experience

We could certainly use the help of some responsible folks to join in the RSO effort at the forest, I encourage you to PM ENSF so he can have your contact info, there are some good things going on that should secure the long term sustainability of the safety program. Nothing happens as fast as...

      Elk Neck 11/28 Bad Experience

Well the range command you taught me on the couple of shifts we worked together included something to the effect of "do not handle or load magazines while shooters are down range". Be contrary to it now if you like, the concept made sense to me then and it still does now. I reckon it is moot...

      Elk Neck 11/28 Bad Experience

Though not on the sign it is how Terry taught it, and I agree with it. No "need" to be fumbling with anything related to a firearm during a cease fire. Allowing mags to be loaded just encourages folks to creep up on the firing line.

      Elk Neck 11/28 Bad Experience

The problem is that it is contrary to the SOP at ENSF (you should know this).

      Elk Neck 11/28 Bad Experience

Thanks for reporting this (even if after the fact) in the future I encourage you to call the DNR number. It will only take one or two of these bozo's getting arrested for the word to get out that the rules are getting enforced. I would not encourage you to approach the guy, a simple phone call...

Lookin' Down Another Barrel at Elk Neck, 11/5/10

I encourage you to act as a responsible shooter when you see something unsafe happen, call the DNR number. They will come out and inform, remove or arrest the offender as needed. Then you can continue shooting. Until patrons get the stones up to call when things happen nothing will change. The...

Immediate Rule Change at Elk Neck

If no one shows up to RSO then there isn't anyone to make the judgment call. there is only three guys scheduled to pull shifts this month, last month only three pulled any shifts. A large majority of the group you trained for free have had a change of heart towards helping keep ENSF safe.

Immediate Rule Change at Elk Neck

The person making the announcement is the authority at ENSF and is empowered to set rules at ENSF. What is posted on the web site has no bearing on the rules posted at the range, ENSF has its own rule set posted on site. The courtesy of Shawn posting about the rule change was so that folks...

      Elk Neck

I should have qualified my statement as opinion, sorry for not. An opinion formed from shooting and talking with friends associates who are LEO's and from watching those sworn to protect and serve break every rule in the book when I am RSO'ing. BTW it wasn't picking on LEO's, just stating my...

      Elk Neck

Hi Kim, your reference to LEO does not support that you are familiar with safe shooting practices, cops in general are easily the worst offenders of firearm safety that one could encounter. So you stating you shoot and learn from LEO's puts a flag up telling me you probably have not learned...

      Elk Neck NRA RSO Class

Hey Terry I know a few people local to this area that would be willing to volunteer, they would prefer to do a class closer to the range though. They are non MDshooter members, but are responsible upstanding guys (you know complete opposite of me :innocent0) let me know what date you pick and...

      Safety at Elk Neck Range

I should be able to most any Sunday. My recommendation is set a date for the first class and then those that can make it (until the class limit is achieved) sign up and go, once that proves to be a success hold a second one, continue this until you get little response OR the needs of the range...

I'm new to the forum but would be willing to volunteer some time, like others I would need to get the certification.
