To say that not everyone who serves in the military attends basic training shows me that you know absolutely NOTHING about what you are talking about. Please refrain from spewing nonsense, thanks!

We get it, there’s a ton of people here who don’t think a DD-214 equates MD “training” can a mod please close this thread, lol!

Here’s a good link to what the Navy does now in basic, even chaps in the engine room! Cheers!

I think it would be fair if we all just agree to disagree on this one. There are clear generational gaps with military experience here. Younger vets get weapon, and combative training, to include who to shoot and who not to shoot, and some older vets didn’t shoot guns. Google searches would...
Yeah, I’ll admit I had blinders on when thinking about folks with a DD-214. Even though I’m retired, I’m fairly young and all I’ve known is the post 9/11 era..I think a fair assessment would be that folks who served in the past 20 years have had more weapons training, even in a support role.
It’s a bit different now. Again, not trying to be a jerk here..

Dude, I just retired after 20 years in the Air Force. EVERY SINGLE Airman in the past 5 years has had very adequate weapons training…either way, no sense in arguing, have a good night!

Agreed with all said here..I will add that the level of training post 9-11 is very much different than that of 50 years ago. Even me as a mechanic, looking for a lost socket on the flight one qualified every 3 years, and also prior to deployment. In fact, ALL Airman in basic training now qualify...
You are very mistaken, especially the Air Force. I retired last year from the Air Force last and I’m very familiar with what was taught 20 years ago and also today. The post 9-11 era has been infinitely different from what your knew. A quick google will show you exactly what all the branches do...
For the post 9/11 generation, yes… basic is clearly different now than when most of you went through. I wasn’t thinking you guys and gals weren’t at war when you were in….perhaps I’ll restate my original statement…if you served in any branch over the past 20 years, a DD-214 is more than enough...
