"My question is how important is it to have a high end receiver?"
Not at all.
"Would I even notice a difference?"
No.
"Barrel choice is more critical to accuracy than any other part. All the fancy parts in the world won't make a bad barrel shoot well. Also, all the fancy parts in the world...
"But simple solution is. Stay in your home state.
We have lots n lots of ranges and clubs in MD."
Not so simple for many MD shooters. Driving distance and range distance, as well as where competitions are held make this advice difficult for many MD residents.
I belong to three ranges/clubs...
adit: This SEEMS to clearly state that if my AR's were legally purchased prior to the laws inception (June 30, 2022???), it would be perfectly legal to transport them from my home in MD to a DE range of which I am a member, and back home again. I am a MD resident, not a DE resident.
Where in MD you are located or looking?
Delmarva Sportsman Association, Sudlersville, MD

In PA, but close to MD: Atglen Sportsman's Club

Set of Four Mag Wheels and Tires for 16” Honda CRV or Similar Honda
I bought this new set of excellent quality tires when my 2005 CRV turned 280,000 miles, anticipating another 40k+ miles. Unfortunately, after just under 5000 miles the auto transmission on the car went south and the car will be...
Guys - Thanks for the tips, but . . . due to stated "liability" concerns, no retail outlets (Costco/Walmart etc.) will sell me used tires. I have asked in person. Also - the car will be worth much more if it has wheels and tires and can be towed. I've checked. Still need those crappy 16" tires!
Just an FYI - Salisbury Gun Club hosted a 22LR rimfire "Long Gong" competition on 2/17. Three targets, I believe 8"-6" and 4" at 300 yards - different points for the different sizes. Someone who attended the 2/17 match can provide more details, but I believe there was at least 2 classes. I'm not...
"Yeah, I don’t see the .308 as a practical LR round. It’s like throwing rocks."
From the NRA F-Class Rules:
FTR Class
Calibre: .223” Remington or .308” Winchester, or their metric equivalents, only
Apparently the 1000 yard practice session yesterday at Bridgeville was a one-off situation held to allow a local shooter (sorry - I forget his name) some extra prep time as he will be heading to South Africa to compete.
My understanding is that on match weekends, the Friday practice sessions...
I received an email saying that the 1000 yard range at the Bridgeville range would be open Thursday morning for practice, so myself and two other 1000 yard newbies decided to see what it was all about.
We had a great time, with many thanks to FrankN and the other experienced 1K shooters that...
As other have stated, the .22-250 is an excellent short to medium range varminter. With 53-55gr. varmint bullets, deadly on groundhogs and devastating on p-dogs (pink mist). I eventually went to the .22-250 Ackley Improved (AI) to extend case life. (Won a 600 yard match with one many decades ago...
Okay - thanks for the great images and description of your "barrel blocking". Basically, the only support is the small area of the metal block used to secure the barrel? Interesting.
But, with due respect, I doubt that system maximizes precision in a 10/22. Yes, the 10/22 action is not the...
BurkeM - Thanks for your comprehensive answer. Looks like "NO" for MD residents. I spoke to the DE State Police and was informed that they are creating a "Firearms Unit" that will (supposedly) be operational within a month or so that will deal with this issue.
Although . . . your posts states...
I believe there is some provision in the new laws to have AR-15's somehow registered in DE, at least for DE residents, that would allow for transport. Wondering if there is any way for an MD resident to do the same? I am an MD resident but belong to a range/club in DE and at present cannot...

"barrel/V block bedding is critical, bedding the receiver is not. it is all about the barrel and chamber, that is what makes one accurate, everything else preserves that accuracy, or degrades it."
I have never heard of V-block bedding the barrel only, and not the action, on a...
I have NO idea what the throat is on the 30BR (or the 6BR or the 22BR). The 30BR and 6BR were chambered by Sid Goodling some 20+ years ago. The 30 has always shot bullets in the 112 to 118 range (17T barrel) which are slightly into the lands while seated ~halfway+/- down the neck. I tried 135gr...
22BR (14T Varmint Rifle) 55gr. SBK's & 53gr. SMK's
6BR all Berger 105 Hybrids
30BR Berger 115's and BIB112's
(Bullets are moly coated.)
Some testing - for match preps.
Love my BR's!
I would think that just about any metal removal for threads on that thin/small diameter of a muzzle on a button rifled barrel will degrade accuracy. While you might not like this idea, cutting the barrel down significantly so that it has a thicker muzzle diameter and threading at the thicker...
