I appreciated all of this post as well as others of yours in this thread, but I wanted to highlight this bit in particular. It is an extremely informative foundation for understanding the legal framework this country has had for regulating arms and almost as important, where we got it from.
I've had a very hard time unraveling with the specific requirements are going to be if this passes re:
-Finished home built firearms (non-NFA) that do not currently bear a serial number
-Unfinished 80s that DO bear a serial number/relevant info (say, beginnings of an NFA project that never...
I have heard from at least one person in the MGA that this year is also different because Frosh will be directly championing the bill, and it won't be introduced/managed by Del. Lopez as it has been in years past. I believe Speaker Jones will introduce it and it is expected to be a priority for...
I'm not going to fault you for fighting the good fight on the front end. Every bit of effort put out to oppose this stuff on the front end has the potential to avoid eventual escalation and the need to fight later on when the consequences are more dire.
Hat is off to you.
Yeah I mean I think you're generally right. The biggest encouragement I get right now is just that they haven't gotten around to it yet like you said, and that, to me, means it's low-priority.
They're tired of seeing eachother at this stage.
I heard he's been holding that bill (something the senate leadership wanted) hostage for a while trying to get a vote in the senate on something of his and it seems like his chair had finally lost patience with it.
Hearing that Judiciary chair (Clippinger) called the committee into the old senate chamber for "five minutes".
Not sure what everyone else is doing.
I wasn't watching but someone said that there was a tiff on the floor?
My experience with this bill and other things in the MGA in prior years leads me to think that this just wasn't a priority for anyone to get out of it's way, especially with the last minute games they tried to play in the house last week (that probably didn't go over great in the senate)...
UPDATE:
The House adjourned again without dealing with Special Order Calendar 91 (and therefore SB190). It's fallen into Session 3 which was supposed to start at 8:50 p.m.
UPDATE:
The house adjourned without dealing with Special Order Calendar 91 (containing and only containing the bill we are concerned with in this thread). Either by default or through deliberate passing-over it fell onto the next agenda (Session 2), which starts at 6:30 p.m.
I hesitate to...
It's currently on the agenda for Session 1 in the House today (it's the only bill under Special Order Calendar 91) https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/FloorActions/Agenda/agendas
That link is only good for today afaik since its just a link to the agendas page.
