I know it was OT, but thanks for the detailed post lazarus! Certainly gives me something to think about since I'm sick of glasses falling off and want to wear my fancy pants sunglasses without contacts.
All that said, curious to know if anyone built an ark this weekend to hunt some turkeys!
Ooof bummer lazarus. I was planning on LASIK this season but passed because of life stuff. I have astigmatism in both eyes and high index lenses, so it'll be an adventure I'm sure.
Update on my end. Work panned out and as of August I'll be a CO resident. I'll be available to scout what people are interested in. I'm in the drawing for WY Pronghorn tags, as that seemed more reasonable than $661 for an elk tag non-res in CO still while not having scouted myself. My wife...
2 buddies and I are planning for a 2019 Colorado DIY Elk hunt. Subscribed to the thread. We've started reading everything we can, and have a couple areas in mind. I'm also praying for some opportunities through work to come through so I can just up and move there before then :D
Got a hell of a deal on a Marlin 45-70 in Stainless a year or two ago, I'll be back again. This is more a hunter's show bringing out the $$ antiques and whatnot for the folks that the waterfowl festival brings in. It definitely works.
Let's just say that I've seen numerous stands located adjacent to, or within paw paw stands. The deer are fond of them, unfortunately if my wife and I are paw pawing them we usually accidentally piss off some archers. Whoops.
We make ice cream, custard, smoothies, and bread out of ours. I...
I absolutely use a Thermacell in the early season... well... most of the season I hunt in MD. In PA most of the bugs are dead, and I'm screwed if we have a hot day since I normally don't bring it for that leg of my trip.
Doesn't work well when moving fast, but it keeps a bubble around you...
My dad loved the stuff in the 90's. They still sell Skin So Soft with some bug repellent that works like a champ during the PA Trout Opener. We used to keep the deodorant stick style sunscreen with repellent in all our tackle boxes.
I basically have to walk my butt off for most spots. I'm not exactly a lightweight backpack hunter but I do have to travel a mile for several spots, more for the deep woods spots.
My pack is an LL Bean Blaze Orange day pack and inside:
Hunting License
Zip Ties
Alaska Knives Whitetail...
So has anyone actually just asked the DNR? In PA it's legal as long as you don't have them up in season. I've seen a couple cams and stands left at Kings Landing, but near as I can tell you're not supposed to be leaving stands.
Went out for a couple of hours yesterday with the wife and pup. No antlers. For those of you not aware, this weekend is the official "shedrally" put on by Whitetail Properties and Realtree. There's some helacious sheds being found if you check out #shedrally on Twitter. I on the other hand...
Legal in PA in most regions except Wild Pheasant Restoration Areas and some counties south of I-80. Agree with RwWilly, on pen raised birds anything goes.
Not terribly expensive since I managed to get a used custom rifle done in probably the 90s put back onto a factory stock, I'm just churching it up a little bit to my tastes and updating it. I could deal without bracelets and dog collars and whatever, but I always thought a well made paracord...
Will definitely take a look at the safari sling. As for the pack, I haven't decided yet, was looking at some of the Kifaru and Alps Outdoorz stuff, but we'll see. My LLBean Frameless blaze pack probably won't do it for this trip as it's too small and probably won't carry the weight I need. I...
I'm in the process of building an elk rifle for a hunt in ~2018 at this point. It keeps getting pushed due to life stuff. Anyway, I've found my stock, scope, and got a great deal on a left handed barreled action a couple years ago and decided now was the time to build. I've got it set up and...
Headed there this AM, need to pick up some typical gun show tchotchkes. Not sure if I'll find any smoking deals, but the wife is after a bird gun. I'll see what I can scrounge.
Virginia in general requires two forms of ID. Seems though they're pretty lax on what qualifies for #2. I was able to use my hunting license hard card PA issues for one form since name/address matched.
