Honestly, I think it depends on the person. My 300 WinMag is a heavy one, coming in around 10.5 pounds with optic, but my favored rifle due to its range, power and accuracy. When I was in Canada going after moose in some thick stuff there were times that I could have appreciated something...
Good round for deer at reasonable ranges. I dropped a doe at 40 yards with with the 110 grain Barnes TAC out of my 16" build. Terminal ballistics were rather impressive.
This sounds interesting. I recently inherited a Enfield jungle carbine-at the risk of sounding like an idiot, would that be considered sporterized since the barrel is only 18"? And where is the match held?
For my 300 Blackout, I use an EOTech with a Vortex 3x magnifier. It's mainly used for hogs/deer at 100 yds or less, and this setup works rather nicely. This is perfect for low light shooting, and the 3x magnifier makes things a little easier for the longer shots. Hard to go wrong with what a...
Interesting. I used 34s to work up a 308 load (when I couldn't find any other large primers) and wasn't too impressed. I decided to use them to try and develop a hunting load for my 300 WM. Found a load that grouped 3/8", which greatly exceeded my expectations. Might be worth changing...
All right, just got back from the range today, so I have a better feel on the optic...
My rifle is a custom 300 WM hunting rifle, designed to put critters down at long range, and it's capable of 1/2 MOA. I managed to get the rifle sighted in at 100 yards with very little fuss, 4 rounds at 25...
I don't have a Whiskey 3, but I just picked up a Tango 4 to mount on my 300 WM. First impressions are that it's a beast of a scope, good glass, however, I haven't sighted it in yet or put it through it's paces. I'll see what happens in a few weeks when I get it out for some extended range...
As a general rule, I was taught in TCCC that a tourniquet can be applied, even when not needed, and left on for up to two hours with no adverse or long lasting effects. Not likely to be a problem in most urban areas where hospitals are nearby. I think the longest recorded time was a tourniquet...
I used Hornady FMJ 147gr in a 9mm load using W231 years ago. I was always pleased with the accuracy of the round, and it was very controllable. I ended up using that load for a number of matches. Alas, when a certain president got elected, components became hard to find, and the price of...
300 Blackout, 16" 1/8 twist free float barrel on a rifle I built using an Engage Armament upper and lower. I topped it with a EOtech and 3x magnifier. My wife is a bit recoil adverse and wanted something semi auto with a simple reticle, hence this build. When finished, I was making hits out...
I don't think you'll be disappointed. I picked one up last year, I've shot three deer with it so far. 250 grain shockwaves over 100 grains pyrodex. I get around 2.5" groups at 100 yards, certainly good enough to hunt around my property. Easy to maintain/clean, and you can't beat the price.
