It’s a cool show. I went a couple years ago, on a Saturday. They start wrapping up kinda early for a Saturday, but it was definitely worth the drive. I’ve heard it’s better to go on Thursday or Friday.

In MD, you may open carry any blade and you may conceal carry any folding blade. There is no mention of length/size in MD knife laws. It seems VA knife laws are practically the same as MD.

Base model ARs are pretty inexpensive right now. Unless you have a specific purpose for it, I would buy something “cheap” to learn the platform then either upgrade parts or save/trade up for a rifle that completes your ultimate goal. Whether that is long range, action sports, range toy/plinker...
Are you talking about Starter pistols or regular firearms modified to fire only blanks? Mr. Smith's advice is good, but if you showed up at MSP barracks for a starter pistol I'd imagine they'd get a good chuckle out of it.
