I started reloading a few years ago with a single stage loader, hand weighing each charge. I caught myself loading a bullet with no powder, so decided to idiot proof the process as much as I could. The best way I could think of was to weigh each cartridge when I was all done. I bet I missed at...
Reckless endangerment? Whatever. He should be required to retake safety training. That bullet could have ricocheted and killed 29 people. The emotional damage is apparent just listening to the girl with the mask, even though you can't tell what she's saying. "Mmmff...rlf..gbbl...eekrlcnt!"...
Pros: The heroes in Hollywood NEVER carry one in the chamber (not counting Alec Baldwin). They dialogue with the bad guy for at least 5 minutes at point blank range. When the bad guy says something that makes the hero mad, THEN and only then do they chamber a round. It just seems so much cooler...
I used to have a 12 inch steel target set at about 350 yards. It actually did not look difficult to hit using a 9mm with 5 inch barrel and open sights, but I was always surprised how far off the bullets would land outside the target. It occurred to me later that this could be due to the poor...
The answer to this is simple. If you have a 15 round magazine and have to use your weapon in self-defense, simply stop shooting after you've fired 10 times.
I don't know of any barrel/brands to avoid, except some (e.g. Noveske) that are way overpriced. If you're not going for match grade, any barrel will work fine and you don't need stainless steel, so chromoly will work fine, and theoretically lasts longer. It really comes down to how much you want...
Exactly. Alaskan guides have been moving to 10 mm with hard cast lead bullets for grizzly bears. So a well-placed .357 should easily do the trick on black bears, and a poorly placed .44 magnum (which was 3+ pounds) will not. Which is why I don't go with the "bigger is better" argument.
I don't see the point in doing this. As soon as you get them all, you'll have to start renewing them. So you'll probably spend another $6000 every few years.
I've been doing this for years and know exactly why you don't want to buy 1 pound bags. You'll save much more money buying in bulk. You can get four gallon square plastic buckets from restaurants to store them in, usually for free. One 4g bucket will hold 25 pounds of beans, which is perfect...
I could see smart guns as an option for people who wanted one. But sure as heck it won't be long before someone makes them mandatory. Eventually they could put gps tracking on them and the government or mfg could disable it remotely. We're already getting to that point with smart vehicles.
I don't see the urge to buy a Colt M4A1, unless you carried one in theater and feel nostalgic about it. You can build a way better rifle for well under $1000.
I got a 92 about 11 years ago. At the time I wasn't sold on polymer guns, so it came down to the Beretta, SIG P226 or CZ. I ended up choosing the 92 since I was going to be issued one for work and figured I may as well practice with the same. The best magazines you can get are Mec-Gar, better...
"44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world."
Worst recoils handgun I've ever shot? "44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world." Well not any more. That is the most power I'd ever want in a handgun. If I need more power I'll carry a rifle before I'll ever get a handgun that...
