Funny thing about PTSD...it doesn't happen to just soldiers...people who have been assaulted, attacked, raped...hell, even been in a car crash, can all experience PTSD...imagine The State saying that those people are mentally ill and can't carry a handgun for protection.
Oh, wait...it IS Maryland.
Food for thought:
Some states - Texas and Georgia come to mind - approve concealed handgun licenses (or equivalent) to 18+ active duty military.
A friend of mine in Georgia told me that an active duty service members stationed in Georgia don't even need the license - his/her military ID --IS--...
The Texas DPS published statistics of criminal convictions of CHL (now LTC) holders - see https://www.txdps.state.tx.us/rsd/chl/reports/convrates.htm
The last year for which data is available is 2014, but you'll see the the very, very low percentage of CHL/LTC holders convicted of crimes.

My guess is that the guy already had a new job (better pay, etc.) lined up beforehand and simply used this as an excuse to make himself seem more "academic."
I'm originally from Maryland and have been in San Antonio for the last five years.
I don't know how to properly put this, but I experience culture shock every time I go BACK to Maryland.
People are simply nicer and friendlier. So much that my toddler daughter once asked "Why is everyone so mad...
San Antonio's great. Cost of living pretty reasonable, ~30 cents less for a gallon of gas. Lower utility bills (except for water, if you water your lawn).
Live on the Northwest/North side of town and you'll be fine. Schools over here are pretty good.
Humidity is nowhere near as bad as...
The "Run, Hide, Fight" video that my company shows was filmed in Houston - you can clearly see the "bad guy" stroll past a "30.06 sign" that prohibits licensed concealed carry on the premises.
Surreal.
Perhaps a bit tongue-in-cheek here...but maybe I should type that up and send it to Maryland's Attorney General and tell him that I believe I have the right to carry a concealed handgun the next time I visit Maryland.
Maybe end it with something along the lines of "Unless I receive a written...
Okay, I stand corrected. The point I (poorly) tried to make was that "they" get to protect themselves while "we" don't.
Here's a revision:
If O'Malley is still a major candidate within 120 days of the election, he will receive taxpayer-funded armed security.
Not to thread-jack this...but Marty has taxpayer-funded armed security since he's now a candidate for President...and I'm pretty sure that his judge wife also has some guns in proximity to her at most times...you know, because their lives are more important than those of the common rabble.
It's a good start, but the goal is Constitutional Carry...the mayor and police chief in San Antonio have already said that they plan to use "lawful" means to "discourage" people from OCing. Austin, Houston, and Dallas will probably do the same (guess where all the Libs live?).
Hopefully, after...
Okay...so riddle me this:
Suppose the new Governor appoints an MSP superintendent who, within his lawful authority, interprets G&S as pretty much any person who may lawfully purchase/possess a handgun and approves carry permits on that basis.
That would turn Maryland into a de facto "shall...
When I lived in the UK in the 90s, a friend's house was broken into during the night. My friend threatened the guy with a softball bat and chased him out, and then called the police. The police confiscated the bat since it was used as "an offensive weapon."
Later, I was part of a military...
