OP, that's really nice. Looks just like the 1911A1's I saw when I was in the Army. If that gun could talk, it probably would have a lot of good stories.
I am going to make a trip to Ohio in a couple of months. What do I need if I want to buy a rifle from the CMP store? Do I just bring the paperwork for the eligibility requirements or do I need an order form that's notarized?
I absolutely agree. The M1 Garand is more comfortable to shoot than a Savage model 10 in 308. I had to put a Limbsaver on my model 10. But the Garand? No problem.
The current Windham Weaponry rifles are effectively Bushmaster. Also, some of the Remington AR rifles made through 2014 or so are really re-branded Bushmaster rifles. They show up on Gunbroker from time to time. This one is more of a hunting rifle.
See...
It amazes me how on one hand guys get 1-6X LPVO scopes for their AR's and state that's good to 500 yards. Then other guys get 12X scopes for their 22LR bolt guns to shoot at 100 yards.
Got the SLx3X today. I don't know how they did it, but it is way smaller than a 1X Vortex Spitfire. Much lighter as well. Can't wait to get it to the range.
Keep shooting has them for $8.95

You can get an oiler, sling, and magazine pouch for $29 here:

back to the OP; I had it in my head that the Fulton Armory M1 Carbines were around $2K. At $2,600, IDK. That's pushing it. A collectible C&R option starts to become attractive at that price.
I LOVE that stock. My FIL (who has since passed) had one like that that he practically gave away. It was some law enforcement model that the Capital Police were using at the time. Not sure of the manufacturer.
