AR gas block help
 

My son wants to change the free float handgaurd on his AR. This means the low profile gas block needs to come off. It has 2 allen head set screws holding it in place. one will not loosen. I've tried penetrants and heat and twisted a number of wrenches.

Might have Rocksett on the threads. Try soaking in warm/hot water and see if thats it (since you tried heat).

Who put the upper together? It might have rocksett as a thread locker. That is softened by boiling water i think

It may have Rocksett. If that's the case it needs to be soaked in water to loosen.

I just had an issue with one that stripped. I wrote off the block and drilled it out. Used a larger drill bit and it finally let go. It will release before you hit the barrel if it's where the dimple is. If the barrel isn't dimpled you need to be careful as you will hit the barrel.

Rocksett can also be shattered by hitting it; shatter and soak in water. If it is held in place by red loctite, then you will need to heat it with a torch.

EDIT - so for those allen screws; use a hammer and punch to smack it.
