Marlin 1894 recoil

I took the Marlin 1894 357mag to the range today and was shooting .38 reloads and having fun. Switched over to.357 mags and couldn't believe the difference in recoil. I've never thought the.357 had much recoil until today. I must be getting old. Still one of my favorite firearms.

I still want one of those rifles.

I've actually never shot .357's through mine. Shooting 38's is amazingly quiet with minimal to no recoil. Its one of my favorite range toys.

Me too. Just been leery of winding up with a Remlin problem. Recent bankruptcy reorganization doesn't help me to get past that thought either.

Maybe it's related to how the rifle fits the individual. I have three levers in 357 (Winchester 1873 short rifle, Winchester 1892 carbine, and a Henry with a 16-inch barrel) as well as a Ruger 77/357. With all but the 1873, I've shot Underwood 357 rounds and felt that the recoil was minimal. Definitely more percussive sound than 38 Special, but nothing that moves the rifle much more than 223/5.56 out of an AR-15. On the other hand, shooting 38 Special is practically as gentle as 22LR out of a small lever.

I was lucky enough to get one of the first year of manufacture .357 Marlin lever guns. 1979 . I shouldn't say lucky cause I paid through the a$$ for it. Still,I'm glad I got it. Marlin started selling them again recently from what I hear.

The funny thing is I've shot.357 out of this gun before and never noticed much recoil. Very strange. .357's were factory loads too.

I like companion firearms; 223 AR and 223 bolt gun; 6.5 Grendel AR and 6.5 Grendel bolt gun. 357 wheel gun and 357 lever action. It's on my list.

Got the Winchester Trapper Model 16" in .357 mag. and .44 mag. Both shoot awesomely.

I was definitely surprised by the recoil shooting .44 Mag with the Marlin. I mistakenly underestimated the handgun caliber.
