Great. If he came steam rolling in here thumping his chest about winning the war, I'd say the same thing. But if he's the guy you say he is, we wouldn't know.

No one cares for the course. Everyone gets it. This stupid thread should be locked.
But you know what's great? Someone who has never picked up a pistol, will get their permit just as a former D Boy will get his.

I'm not sure why there are folks with DD214s here on this forum, where all of us are gun owners who actually use their guns, who don't think they should be exempted from the training requirement.

I'm a veteran - never went to the sandbox, and I don't thump my chest about it (I'm a freaking Army trumpet player after all) but I know my way around a pistol well enough, and I've been through enough weapons training over the years, that I'm perfectly ok with the fact that I'm exempt from the training requirement.

Opinion noted.. It's all good. I don't speak much about my service, unless asked. However, I doubt you have the information needed to make much of any operation/training comparison/factual comments.
You've never done anything in the military remotely close to the career I retired from.
Since now we're all thumping chests.
But you're correct. I've never carried a Beretta in a nylon flap holster on my "web gear".

Once again; "You do not have the information needed to make any operation/training comparison factual comments. Thank you for your service...

However, if you go back and read post #137, you may just be able to comprehend my position on training.

i put out the olive branch but it seems like that’s not something you want.

I consider anyone who honorably served as a brother. And like most families there are some family members we don’t get along with. Guess you and I are not gonna get along.

But here is something for you to chew on while your sharing your opinions.

When I came home from my last deployment and became a civilian, I was full of pride about everything I had done. At that time I did beat my chest. And why not? At that time I felt I had earned it with the shit I had been through.

And then after a few family members passed away I was given my Grandfathers DD214 from when he served in “The World War”. And I read everything that was hand written on that document both front and back. That’s when I realized I didn’t do jack and shit.

So don’t look for “Chest Thumping” where there is none. I have confidence in my ability as well as pride in my service and my accomplishments. That’s what you see in my posts.

With that said. If you wanna take the olive branch it’s still there.

    Be a grey guy.
Apparently you like things for the glory and not the deed.

Never in my life have I ever come across someone who touts their service more than you.

Are you out? If you are, then be a civilian who had a previous career.

Actually, chaps serve a whole different purpose - by design they are made from heavy leather so that a rider can ride through brush without getting their actual pants and legs torn up.

    Definition - chaps:
    1. leather pants without a seat, worn by a cowboy over ordinary pants to protect the legs.

Anyone who says "assless chaps" is an ignoramus. IMO.
“Assed chaps” as what I quoted and was referring to, would be called pants….

And you'd still be wrong - chaps serve a wholly different purpose than pants. Chaps are not pants - they are chaps. So help me, I grew up in rural Nebraska and actually know these things.

When you brag about your knowledge of chaps and the wearing thereof, is that also chest thumping, or would you call it something else, like ass thumping? ;)

How about we close this thread before the a** hats in Annapolis get any bright ideas reading through this?? Don't need MD training and will be pretty pi**ed off if I have to waste money in the future.

It's simply me being more knowledgeable than ignoramuses who say "assless chaps." Nothing more.

I love saying “assless chaps”. I know it’s wrong. Few people out there are Chapologists, such as yourself. I’d bet 75% of kids today aren’t quite sure what chaps are. Besides, my 12 year-old brain gets a chuckle when I say it.

There are sides to the 2A and mandatory training people are not on the right side.

Here's what the mandatory training should consist of, at the bottom of the carry permit application. JMO.

Please indicate your agreement with the following statements by initialling the box.

[__] I am familiar with the safe operation and use of firearms. If I am not, I will seek out appropriate training in person, online, or in written form before carrying a loaded firearm in public. All persons are encouraged to seek additional training whenever possible.

[__] Along with my permit I will recieve a detailed brochure covering Maryland law regarding the carry and use of firearms. I hereby confirm I will read the brochure and familiarize myself with Maryland law before carrying my firearm in public.

Probably, but that wasn't my intention. I think they should inform (or remind) people what their responsibilities are and what is expected of them, and that is it.
Oh, I think it’s a great idea, too.

It puts the responsibility on the gun owner. And isn’t that the expectation? That all gun owners are responsible adults?

    I like it.
The reality is: "Regardless of training status, mandatory or not required, and acknowledged or not, the responsibility is always on the gun owner". Anyone who can't except that responsibility should reconsider W & C.
