Interesting, not knocking anyones knife preferences but switchblades were never my thing sinice I entered the USMC at age 17 in the 70’s and learned and kept my issued Kbar as my go to knife. Obviously can’t carry that in public so maybe I’ll start taking a look see at the options.

You can carry the Kbar in public.

Wear it with your sheath, open, not concealed. Not illegal.

Non-folding or "fixed blade" knives are an unusual grey area in the law, but an important factor to remember is that the law only applies if they're concealed or carried with intent to injure unlawfully. Carrying openly without illegal intent is completely legal, and case law has established that being sheathed or otherwise just having the handle visible is not concealed.

Meh. I am I knife collector and have a few OTFs. I think they are worse in every single category than other styles of knife, for practical use. But, they are undeniably the coolest type.

I have a K-Bar also that I have been wanting to wear too, as well as a couple of other fixed blades with sheaths. Nothing "Bowie" sized. I normally wear a untucked T-Shirt that could obscure the top of the knife's handle in the sheath, although the sheath itself would still be visible. Would that be considered concealed? Or maybe I just should hike up the bottom of the T-shirt to show the top of the knife's pommel?

My experience/ opinion is the opposite .

Plenty of easy one hand opening knives . The one hand * Closing * of an OTF is way handy .

I stand corrected. You're right. Closing an OTF is the easiest, and convenient.

I just don't like the blade shapes, or the reliability. I think they are cool as all hell, and love my Mictrotech Ultratech Mando edition, but I'd never use it as confidently as I would my other folders.

Yes , it takes some looking for blade shapes of my preference ( single edge , plain edge , either clip point or drop point ) . But have such from Lighting in 440C , and Covert in D2 .

Excluding having a CC permit. Would a Kbar be considered a bowie kinfe. Aren't bowie knives still illegal to carry without a permit?

    Inquiring minds want to know...
It is definitely not a Bowie knife. I don’t know about the legality of Bowie knives.

    Me too!
I did however provide each of my family members who got their HGPs with a Schrade SC60MB as a token of my appreciation for them finally getting aboard the self protection train that I've been conducting for the last 20+ years.
Nice little knife! It’s fun to see people take an interest in one of your passions.

Man I was just about to reply to the meeting thread that I've got honey-do stuff on that day. Actually I've got a guy coming to do some work that day and will not leave the Mrs and The Gooch here alone. If his schedule changes or if there's a call for rain I will be able to come.
