It’s Limited, but in my experience:
Pyrodex as main charge is ok but not ideal. Perfectly safe just difficult. The substitute powders ignite a few hundred degrees higher than real black powder. They are hard to ignite in a flintlock. A percussion cap gun (cap lock) makes more flame more...
The exception is the federal flight control wad that’s meant for cylinder bore. Reports are that it patterns worse (pattern opens up sooner/less even) with any choke.
Small is beautiful
I’m no expert, but what has worked for us is to keep it small and well managed. Look for a book called Square Foot Gardening. We have three kids. Everyone has a box they’re responsible for...and hopefully proud of. Especially if you’ve never gardened very much before...

Thanks occam, appreciate the feedback. We have several.22s including older Winchester pumps and Remington speed master. I will definitely get a .22 lever, but the deer caliber and the excuse to start reloading is probably getting my wallet first.
