If you are talking about the 6.5mm 140gr weight class, Berger has a relatively new type of bullet design that they call "Hybrids" and they make one in the 140gr (but not in 130gr). The "Hybrid" nose design combines the front end of the VLD profile and the ogive/bearing area of a tangent bullet...
I'm bumping this up to let you guys know that there are only a few slots left for this class, per Freddy's post on Snipers Hide. So if you want to push your L/R skills get off the sidelines now.
Hope to see some of you guys out there in August!
VLDs are simply awesome on deer. Drops them hard and quickly.
They can produce more "flyers" than bullets with more 'gentle' ogives. So you might have a nice .5" group going and get one that flys out an 1" or so. Not all rifles/loads will produce flyers w/ VLDs, but it is a compromise, a...
Guys-
Hey, I wanted to give you all a heads up on an advanced class that Freddy Wissing at Black Hat is hoping to run in late August.

Why did you have trouble hitting targets?
Was it you, the gun or a combo?
Missing stuff in a match is all part of the fun... look at it as a chance to learn. You learn more stuff at a match than you do at 10 range trips.
Your rear bag is 15lbs??? No way, don't bring that. I'm talking about a light, tactical bag, i.e. something like this:

Helps you both with stabilizing the buttstock on prone shots and the forend on barricades/rooftop sims. If you don't have...
Don't be confused. Trust me, they let you leave even if you don't hit every target. The match will probably will be closer to a precision match then a 3-gun match. You may be have one or two 'CQB' stages (one time they ran a mini-CQB stage over on the pistol range). Steve said that there...
If you can drive the rifle, 10x is plenty. As long as your rounds are going into the berms, you will be fine. Don't let the lack of "a ton of rounds down the tube" stop you.

I will throw in my 2 cents on your question-
This match is a great start in precision rifles (DMR specifically). The crew at Mayberry is very friendly and the atmosphere is not over-the-top competitive. Guys will help you out on any questions you have, the pace is not too fast, and...
