      Obama Spurns Gun Control?

Interesting article by Steve Chapman at Townhall.com regarding why the President has, so far, apparently distanced himself from attempts at putting further restrictions on our gun rights. It's all political, of course. :)...

      Mosin Nagant advice on selling

I've thought about keeping it, but I really need to unload some of my arsenal. I'm at the point in my life where the kids have all flown the coop, it's just me and the wife, who's not friendly to guns. I'm the only shooter in the house, except for the occasional son who might drop in to go...

Something about not having enough sense to come in out of the rain.

Any Experience with 3 Level Rem Ultra Mag?

About a year ago I bought a Rem M700 in the 3 (Power) Level Remington Ultra Mag in 7mm. It sounded like the ultimate big game rifle/load when I bought it. I have yet to shoot it. Can anyone offer any real-time advice from the field regarding this load? Remington played it up in their...

      Mosin Nagant advice on selling

Very clear and excellent explanation of counterbored. Now I understand. I will take another look, but I do not think mine is counterbored.

      Body Booting

I am convinced that there is imprinted somewhere within the human genetic code of some (not all) men a "waterfowling gene" that allows those of us who love this pursuit to enjoy what to others seem to be unbearable miseries: sleep deprivation; hours of exposure to body-numbing, sub-zero...

      Mosin Nagant advice on selling

Wasn't able to make it to the show this weekend. Had to attend a funeral in Washington state. What is "counterbored?"

      Aftermarket cantilever slug barrels

Spur0701: That's a very nice set-up. Where'd you get the stock? What kind of recoil pad do you use? How do you like the Nikon? I put one on my 30-06, but haven't hunted with it yet. I think I'll give the Hornadys a try. I shot nine rounds of Buckhammers at the range and my shoulder ached...

      Dogs: Chesapeake vs Lab

I have certainly come to the right place for information on dogs. You guys have provided some outstanding photos, stories and advice. One thing that comes out of all your posts is that these dogs all have a great deal of heart--man, that water looks COLD!! You've really got me excited about...

      Engage Armament, Kensington MD

I took my 11-87 to Engage on Saturday for some work by their gunsmith. I am new to the area; this was the 1st gun shop in MD that I've ever visited, so I don't have much to compare it to, but I was impressed with the level of customer service and their responsiveness to my needs. Their...

Any problems with your Rem 11-87?

The Gunsmith at Engage Armament has it torn apart. It appears that it's missing the extractor plunger and spring. That would explain the cycling problem. He'll continue to diagnose the problem and give me more information later. I also asked him to check the O-rings.

      Aftermarket cantilever slug barrels

I stand corrected. I took another look at Gunbroker; the cantilever slug barrel with scope is for an 870, not 11-87. The Busnell scope is 3-9x32 variable. It still sounds like a good deal at $180.00.

      Mosin Nagant advice on selling

Looking at the Mosin Nagant marks website that Half-Cocked provided, my barrel shank is almost identical to the one shown in column C, 2nd down from the top of the column. Both the Soviet crest and the Ishevsk Arrow in Triangle appear on the shank along with "1944." The serial number appears...

      Dogs: Chesapeake vs Lab

Hope I'm not speaking too far out of school, but I just wanted to get your impressions about hunting dogs; specifically Chesapeake Retriever vs Labrador Retriever. A friend once told me that Golden Labs can be trained with a wet noodle; Labrador Retrievers are trained with a fist; Chesapeake...

      The Forgotten Virtue of Firearms

Take a look at this recent piece from the Washington Times. It makes some important points about the power of the media to impact public perceptions regarding lawful handgun use in preventing crimes, and the folly of gun-free zones. The subtext is that if you find yourselve in a gunfight, it's...
