Hiking and fishing day trip options

Well, the masses have spoken, looks like we are headed to the C&O. Now, for a more contentious question; I want to take the bare minimum of tackle with me, like a tiny 4-compartment Plaino box. My rod is a 5' LW with a spinning rig. What tackle should I bring along to maximize my causal...

Hiking and fishing day trip options

A friend an I want to go on a little day trip on Memorial Day and I am looking for suggestions on interesting places to go. He is a pretty avid hiker and I am fishing obsessed so the idea spot is somewhere with a trail along a river or stream or a body of water that is wade-able for a few...

Willy, where are you fishing? I have been going to the Governor's Bridge rec area lately as it is between where I am working an home. It isn't the greatest spot but I can usually catch a pile of small bluegills if I get there early enough.

@ willy: I didnt do well at all, just maybe 3-4 tiny bluegills. It was too windy where I was to allow me to cast very far or accurately. This morning I am heading out to get a kayak lesson from a friend of mine, I have been looking at Craigslist and they seem to pop up pretty often.

The King of Knots! Most important knot you should know.

Not a lot of love for the Butterfly Loop. It is a great knot and comes in handy all the time. I used to work as a theatrical rigger and while most everything is motors, chain, and GAC these days I still learned a good bit about rope work doing system installs in buildings with shady...

Finally caught some reasonably sized ones. Went back to Beverly Beach this morning, but this time I had a thing of bloodworms. I got there about 8am and at first I was casting close to shore, maybe 15-20' out with a cut-in-third worm on like a and about 2' of line under a small floater...

I have this weekend off and my gf will be at her mothers, so it is time to fish. I am heading to Beverly Beach Park tomorrow morning and am going to stay there most of the day I hope. I have been back a few times and caught a few more small white perch but I am hoping for something bigger. A...

      Looking for beginner fishing advice

Behold my mighty first fish! I caught him at Brighton Beach Park in one of the lakes. I caught a second, even smaller fish like 5 min later. Right as I was about to leave I saw a large *something* break the top of the water like 20' from the bank. I quickly switched to a bigger hooked...

Wanna trade ponds? Speaking of turtles, at Gov's Bridge yesterday I might have seen more turtles in one day then I have seen in my life prior. I stopped counting at like 50. Will turtles take bait? I would hate to snag on of those little guys and honestly have no idea how to free one.

I tried the pond yesterday with some lures, casting them as far in as I could. I spent about an hour working around the shore, got no hits. Tonight I am going out there with a bunch of chicken livers, some doughball bait, a camping chair and a cigar. If I dont get a hit tonight I am...

Wow, thanks guys, and holy hell E.Shell, that is a lot to process, thanks for the info dump. Tomorrow I am going to rig a 5 gallon bucket to an old pack frame I have so I can bring some beer/ice with me and hit the pond again around nightfall. I guess I am still wondering how one knows...

      Looking for beginner fishing advice

My job gives me a ton of weekday time off work and with .22lr being in short supply I decided to give fishing a whirl as a semi-productive hobby to fill my time. I bought a little rig the other day and have been trying to fish this little pond where I live, but with no luck. No one has fished...

      No trespassing/hunting sign holder ideas

The farm I live on is also being visited by dirk bikers. The property is full of horse trails and the bikes tear them up pretty badly. Because of the horses we cant really do much to the trails other then fell a ton of logs small enough for a horse to step over but larger then a bike can...
