I'm a relative newbie to PCP airguns, and definitely not a techno-geek. Well, not yet anyway.

Most of us are familiar with Pyramid Air and Air Guns of Arizona. Pyramid doesn't have a showroom, and although the other guys have one, it's a bit far for a day trip. I wanted to treat myself to either a Daystate or Brocock, but couldn't find anybody with a shop that has several (read any) on hand to compare. I found Nathan at Blue Ridge, down in Verona, VA (just north of Staunton) and made a road trip yesterday to check them out.
https://www.blueridgeairguns.com Super glad I did. Even though his stock was somewhat depleted due to a previous weekend's event, he still had a nice selection. Didn't have the exact model I wanted, but we were able to come to a consensus of what I wanted and he could get. Ended up ordering a Daystate Red Wolf and an Athlon scope that should arrive here in a week or so.

Nathan is extremely knowledgable and friendly, super helpful, and seems to do a lot to sponsor new air gun shooters and events. He also stocks some compressors and a selection of other accessories. Don't expect to see a BassPro type of selection, but everything he has is good quality and fairly priced (think suggested list).

Here's a generic pic of the new toy:

Good to know, thanks Ed. Nice gun, what caliber? Is it for target or pest management? Daystate makes a great gun, just a little out of my budget.

It's a .22 that I intend to use mostly for targets at 100 yards. I'd love to have the chance to help a farmer get rid of vermin like rats or squirrels, though. And I agree, they are spendy. But I've been lusting after one for several years, and finally gave in to the madness. This one seems to be a nice middle ground between a full-on electronically controlled video game, and an old school mechanical rifle. The trigger and power setting are electronic, but everything else is mechanical (or so I'm told). I don't want to have to fiddle with all the various settings to tweak each pellet... too old and way too much of a troglodyte. I'm okay with choosing one of three power settings and experimenting with different pellet styles and weights, though. We'll see how that goes when it arrives and I put it through its paces.

Again, I can't say enough good things about Nathan down at Blue Ridge Airguns. Super helpful and patient, and he knows his stuff.

Roger on the farm thing. I whack pigeons and stuff on the farm. I have a .22 but prefer my .25. A .22 on a squirrel will kill, but margin of error is less. My .25 with an expanding pellet stops them nicely. Hope you have fun with it, 100 yards is quite a poke for an air rifle. Curious to see the results. Some pellets destabilize at that range. Guess you'll find out. What is the stated velocity on max power?

I don't really know, but believe it to be around 950 fps, dependent on pellet weight of course.

I have 2 of the small bottles and a Yong Heng compressor. It works but is loud and cooling is a bit of a pain. Can't wait to hear the report on its shooting. Always fun to play with a new toy.

Just got an email from UPS saying there is a delivery tomorrow from Airguns of Arizona. I hope that's it.

It's here! Man, is it here! After reading the owners manual (yes I do that, especially with technical toys) I installed the scope and set up my little indoor range for some test shots. First impression: this thing is LOUD! I had already bought the thread adapter from the rifle barrel thread (1/2x20) to a normal suppressor thread (1/2x28) and I installed my little can. It's STILL loud, but better. The trigger, being electronic, is insanely light and delicate, and the bolt lever is also light and smooth as butter.

Daystate recommends heavier pellets for this gun than I had, so I shot it with the heaviest that I had: JSB Jumbo 18.13. The first shot windage was spot on with no correction. Moved the stand back to about 10 yards, and elevation also started to look good. The only negative is that this thing hits so hard it broke the supports for my pellet trap and now I have hundreds of lead pellets all over my basement floor. Easily corralled and disposed of.

Daystate included a data test sheet with the rifle that I'll add below and hope it's legible. It might answer some of your questions. I'll try to take it to AGC this Friday morning to stretch its legs and will report back.

I plan to be at AGC tomorrow morning by 10am. Anybody interested is welcome to take a look and run a mag or two. I'll also have an Air Arms Avenger bullpup. As long as you've had your shots. :lol2:

Not a lot, but there are a few folks who shoot air rifles there. That's where i discovered them and caught the bug. A person has to be a member or guest of a member to shoot, but the rules don't seem to address a casual visitor for observation. Here's the office number: 410-461-8532
