Glad the police arrived quickly. However:

The Anacostia station was not among the five stations that received extra patrols during the morning and evening rush hours. Authorities said those stations — Metro Center, Gallery Place, Georgia Ave.-Petworth, Congress Heights and Union Station — were selected based on crime data and could shift with new trends.

You're going to need more than five, Madam Mayor.

Here's the thing : DC has de facto decrimininalized fare evasion , and refuses to prosecute at all .

So new & improved fare gates have to Physically block entrance ; merely alterting to evaders to facilitate apprehension is meaningless .

    See this thread:

    Unreal:

That would pay for quite a few additional officers.

Yeah , it's a bitch that DC decriminalized fare evasion just after the faregates were replaced . But 13% of fare revenues is too much to shrug off .

This rampant fare evasion creates a culture of entitlement and lawlessness which leads to additional crimes that occur both on and off the system. It's something you readily see in the behavior of people.

I'd love to see the (additional) crime rates of fare evaders vs people who pay.

I'll bet it similarly corresponds with the crime rates of unlicensed carriers vs permitted carriers.

Oh wait, we're not supposed to know that....

I think there are 2 types of fare evaders.
    1. Criminals
    2. criminals, but people who are regular riders, who usually pay their fare, that are frustrated with delays, over crowding and folks that are in group one above.

    True.

You've got 1 in 8 riders not paying the fare to ride. The whole thing is a joke.

Waiting on Plaintiff's Attorney to get that response in.... He has until April 24th.

He probably asked for the extra time because of the Hanson motion hearing he argued in last week.

Appreciate it Sunrise. I take the metro into the district everyday. Angers me that I have a md and dc permit, and have to leave my pieces at home. You are doing the lord's work tracking this just like the plaintiffs.

That's very kind of you to say about me, but much credit goes to @Ismee here for posting updates on this as well.

Same goes for me too riding around here. Hopefully Plaintiffs eventually prevail on this.

The metro is my primary means of travel in DC as well. At this point in time, barring lawful concealed carry license holders from carrying on the metro effectively ensures that law-abiding citizens who use the metro will be unarmed when in DC.
