Ok more info than the title, today I had a conversation with a monkey county cop about directives given to them about carry permits/guns. The directive came out via email when bruen first happened. There has been no updates to the directive after the new law went into effect in county.

The directives are if someone is found with a firearm:

-If they have a permit they are supposed to run the gun thru the MSP gun center to confirm the gun is registered to that person ( made it sound like they dont really have to ). Then tell them to have a nice day
-If the person has the gun and no permit and the gun is on them. Run them and the gun thru the Msp gun center. If they are not prohibited and the gun is registered to them, tell them to have a nice day. aka no arresting someone carrying with no permit if they and the gun are legal, he was very surprised by that. ( does not mean do it )
-If the person is prohibited or a ghost gun then they get arrested.
He was asked what to do about carrying a gun not registered to that person, aka a firearm registered to the wife. He stated simply the gun has to be registered to that person.

He stated 1 in 10 they deal with ( not normal people hint hint ) have an illegal gun on them. He said poly 80's are very very popular all with extended mags.

He is going to try to find the email and give me a hard copy, which I will not post here but will send it to Mark. I dont know if this email was targeted to certain areas or the whole countys force. This entire conversation was over heard by @ShafTed , more accurately I called Howard over and the guy repeated it.

Who'd have thought Montgomery County would go Constitutional Carry?

Yeah that gun not registered to them thing is problematic. Will likely get them in trouble down the road. C&R, out of state permit holder, PMF that complied by 3/1/23, all kinds of legal carry situations that could bite them in the ass.

An I understanding correctly that with a MD CW permit your firearm is taken from you to be checked at their gun room? Or your told to be on your way once permit check’s out?

No they call the MSP gun call center, or what ever it is called. I was corrected in the name of it above. Going to fix it now

Nothing in law says the gun must be registered to you
I agree, but the one side no permit gun registered to that person and they are let go is interesting. The other side of no permit, not registered to that person is a who different story...no permit. The other part of not registered to the person with a permit was not clarified on if they are arrested it sounded more like officer descretion

My guess is that they dont want to arrest a bunch of jack and jills worried about getting robbed. If they start arresting a bunch of otherwise legal locals its a good way to get the locals to change their mind on who they vote for.

I mean most of my guns are "registered" because I purchased them here via 77R.... But one isn't and if they tried to arrest me / confiscate it I'd be getting a nice fat check from MoCo

Yes that was brought up as well, at least the out of state part as they cant run the gun. I assume legal MD permit means let them go. See my reply above about LOCAL Jack and Jills

The morons in Mo Co vote for people just like themselves.

I lived there for over 50 years
I know I grew up there, but before the massive shift. I am thinking more like elrich does not want to loose to a tougher on crime candidate. Aka crack down on jack and jill but not actual criminals is a good way to let a tough on crime challenger win.

I find it hard to believe that a police officer anywhere in Maryland would not arrest someone carrying a concealed pistol without a carry permit.
