    From the link above:

The possession and/or use of any illegal weapons (i.e., firearms) are prohibited by the University. Including but not limited to BB Guns, knives, brass knuckles are also prohibited.

Very weird and unintelligent way to phrase that. Do they think firearms are illegal?

If you are scared you should stay home...
    This

There is no reason to endanger your family by taking them there

If you feel like you NEED a gun to go to a particular place, don't go to that place. Especially don't take your kids.

Even if it's for school.... screw the school. Opt out. And tell the school why...and that you are pissed for them scheduling events in dangerous places.

If a tree falls in an IWB holster with a cover garment, does it never being seen make a sound?
It’s one thing if it’s Columbia mall or something, but not where carrying is legally prohibited. Your insurance won’t cover you if nothing else.

My daughter has an event for her high school at Morgan state university on Sunday. Given that the school is in the middle of a bad section of Baltimore I plan on carrying my firearm. I do have a md ccw and just wanted to see if this was actually legal.
Did you call and check on this

Agreed. Because you absolutely positively can’t use it you need it… Seems like a quick way to either end up in jail, losing your permit or both.

Are we discussing random shootings, or targeted attacks? If you have a rival gang that's after you then you better not go. If we are taking random shootings on Morgan Campus on a Sunday afternoon, then the odds are you're not going to have any problems. Good odds, too.

Questions for goody6691, the Original Poster: Where do you live? What makes you think this is "... in the middle of a bad section of Baltimore..."? Do you have much experience of visiting Baltimore?

If you take the trouble to get a W&C permit and to start carrying, it is reasonable to try to carry everywhere and at all times. Trying to distinguish between "safe places" where you don't need to carry, and "dangerous places", where you do carry, is a problematic rabbit hole.

We are all very bad at telling the two apart. We naturally consider familiar places to be safe, and unfamiliar places to be dangerous. This is a generally useful part of our survival instinct: we naturally fear the unknown, but we can be fooled by our "Normality Bias" into assuming that nothing bad will happen in those "safe places" because it never has before.

I think it's reasonable to carry at Morgan State if you reasonably can, but I think it's also reasonable to carry at an upscale grocery store in the far outer suburbs, at a Starbucks in Millersville or an Advanced Radiology office in Westminster.

    Would you rather be dead?

"Go ahead and shoot/stab/beat me to death Mr. criminal, I'm not supposed to be carrying here". :eyeroll:

If your carrying properly, the only way anyone will ever know is if you have to use it to save your own life.

Except for the mentioned metal detectors. Some venues are going with a new tech from a company called Evolv (Hershey Park and Walt Disney World have them) to detect guns and knives. I haven't read it yet, but an article at the BBC is about schools that are asking for the tech to be integrated with doorways (hidden).

Imagine unknowingly going through a scanner purpose-built to detect guns and knives. The current tech uses panels similar to retail store anti-theft detectors, so it's easy to spot/know.

IMHO - the permit should allow exemptions. I can dream.

You’ll be fine up there. I used to be there all the time when my friends went there. They have a decent police presence on campus.

Unless you are getting an MRI! :innocent0

Since I got my permit I've tried to carry every day, every place where it's legal, regardless of how I feel about the area. Honestly any place where I really think I'll need it is probably a place I don't need to be going anyway. Armed or unarmed.

The area around Morgan is one of the safer areas of Baltimore generally.

I would rather stay out of jail in a preventable situation. I have been placed in a situation where I had to fight off armed assailants without my weapon. As far as this situation if I think a place is that dangerous that I feel the need to knowingly break the law by carrying I simply won’t go. If you think for a minute that you are not going to jail and loosing the ability to carry forever in that situation I feel for you… A self defense claim might not even float since you committed a crime 1st. No thank you.

:sad20::lol: Well, there you go, get them pork chop britches on and get out there in that wolf’s den, Threeband bets you’ll be okay…

Sounds like you've never been there. It's basically a fairly high density, pre-war suburban area, with some very nice, upscale-appearing neighborhoods. I would expect it to be a lot safer than a suburban shopping mall.

As a carpenter, I've worked on some nice houses in the general area. I haven't been on the Morgan State campus, but I've driven past it many times while working in the area and making Home Depot runs for work materials. The Home Depot is at a somewhat sketchy shopping center, but I don't think it's an especially life-threatening area.

It's wise to be alert to potential threats both there and in my own "safe" Carroll County neighborhood.

I've been doing the same, and to my own surprise, I've been carrying everywhere every day since I got my permit.
