That describes a 4D maglite pretty accurately unless your definition of decent is loftier than mine.
Yeah the 4D Maglites even with the LED upgrade are still not as bright as a $10 Chinese light. So decent would be over 750 lumens IMO. I have a 3D and it isn't as bright as my cell phone's light but it has more throw.

Streamlight ProTac 1L or 2L would be my choice, but it's above the OP's price range. I think the 1L-AA is close, but can't speak to performance. Something like the 2L-X would be ideal because 18650s are SO much easier to manage than CR123s, but that's like $65.

Basically, I think OP should spend more and get the right flashlight the first time. This isn't a situation like a knife where going through the wrong security checkpoint means you lose it (RIP CRKT KISS). I've carried a Streamlight Wedge everywhere for a long time, and it has yet to be confiscated.

Try buying one of the recent LED conversions off ebay. If you installed the Mag Lite LED, they are junk. The generic ones found on ebay are much brighter and I have never had one fail.
    Good to know. Thanks!

This is a nice light that is within your price preference. (Currently, on sale.)

I have had this light for 2 years and it is still going strong. It is small, durable, has multiple light levels, turns on at the level that is was on when turned off, has a strong magnetic base, the head can swivel, and it's rechargeable.
That's really neat. I might be forced to buy a couple.

Buying flashlights is like buying pocket knives. Seems one can never have enough of them.

Olight is the potato chips of lights. Just cannot have 1. Between WMLs, carry, key chain, throwers, floods, I must have 10 all over the place.

More than $30 but these are my favorites.

    Surefire's

Have one in each vehicle, the boat, garage and on each floor of the house.

I like the yellow ones for the same reason I like Dewalt tools .... I can find the damn things after I set them down somewhere.

One of the most useful are those little Obulbs. They kept packaging them with other stuff for like $1 additional when they first came out and got a few, otherwise they are $20 at full price. Just stick the little lights where you might need them, tap it to turn on, hold to change modes, lasta a long time, charges on the normal O-light USB charger. They used to have stupid good deals frequently, got a Warrior mini, 2 obulbs and a i3t for under $100 as a package, then covid hit and the deals stopped.

One thing I don't understand is their magnetic chargers. Seems certain ones are dedicated to that certain flashlight. I have to try each one on each flashlight to see which one sticks.

That's weird, I have two different gun lights and I use the same USB charger for both.
