My Aac m42000 Suppressor heated up after an afternoon of shooting. The finish turned a variety of colors, It now shows signs of honest use. The only thing that bothers me is that it kinda turned reddish- pink in some areas. ( the Guys tried lighting cigarettes with it , thinking it was still hot)

Would you refinish it or keep it as is?, ( maybe slap a hello kitty sticker on the side to complete its sissification)

Bad news SCAR......The can looks absolutely terrible. Time to sell it at a huge loss and just get another one. PM me where to send you a check for $100.

Does anyone know what kind of finish they use? If it's just the finish changing colors, no big deal. I'm a n00b when it comes to suppressors but if you're getting it so hot that the metal itself is changing colors, its heat treatment may have been compromised. (correct me if I'm wrong, please!!!)

it was kinda drizzling that day.. the rain may have done the discoloring or you had some chicken grease on the napkin you were using to take it off.. lol

AAC uses MOLY RESIN for its suppressors. ( model 8)

The video below is my AACM4 model 6 on an AC556K
That took magdumps and did not change color.
( Please excuse my kid for shooting with his middle finger.. He's been grounded for that and got a haircut since)

    Jmira,

watch the video... This is an M42000 mounted on a 13" barrel, firing full powered rounds...indoors. It is the perfect can for your SBR project. ( BTW, the SIG 556 and most piston driven Rifles do not suppress as good as a DI AR... the piston vents gas and makes a lot of noise in that process)

I'm keeping it as it... I can't say that to AAC... chicken grease? It is what it is. Rain and fried chicken grease will turn your can different colors. Then Al tried using it to light his Cig... My matches and his lighter did not work after that rain.

It's an Eotech 552 rev F , Aimpoint magnifier in a LaRue Flip to side mount and a Matech 600 meter BUIS. This allows me to engage targets effectively from 0-500 yards and produce consistent hits on 10" plates. ( Colt LE6920)

I love this set-up as it is capable of 1" groups with Barnaul steel cased ammo( a bi-product of the suppressor). The Sight is extremely fast. The suppressor also soaks up most of the recoil. This allows the shooters to fire rapidly and keep the reticle on target during recoil. This is set-up gets you on target fast.

I don't know anything about the finish on there, but I've seen a lot of metals change color through cycles of hot and cold due to oils or solvents leeching out and burning at different temps depending on the viscosity of the oil or solvent.

Even when your gun looks completely free of cleaner and break free there's still a residue on there. Maybe the same with your can?

I think the combination of CLP, various oils, fried chicken grease burning off resulted in the oil slick rainbow coloration. It is not affecting performance and purely cosmetic. I 'll keep it like this for a while and send it back to AAC when it gets really scruffy looking.

My Gem Tech is discolored as well. I never worried about it. Most finishes have a hard time holding up to the kind of heat a 556 suppressor generates
