The eternal motto of Maryland Gun Rights :

At least we're not New Jersey

At least we’re not New York! They’re worse. One county is now making you take a pee test. Plus they’re scanning social media.

Does your FID have an expiration? I was told new ones do because of the new laws but existing ones are grandfathered.

Thank you Chad for your info and updates. I am going for my NJ permit as well.

I just received my FID card. I applied on 7/18

I recently asked the NJ State Police about qualifying locally. The trooper told me that I could do it locally in MD as long as all of the requirements were followed and an NRA the an NRA instructor signed the sheet.

I was told that an FBI B-27 target was to be used. I am seeing here in these pages that a "Q" target is to be used are they supposed to be the same? From what I can see they are different unless they are superimposed.
I can see the scoring rings on a B-27 target but I have searched for a "Q" target with scoring rings. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I glad you found this post helpful. Ill update the O.P. once I have my permit in hand. I have to ask for Mod help since the O.P. is locked.

You can use the FBI Q or B27 Targets. They are very different targets. I just think the Q Target is easier to qualify with. The FBI Q is just a hit/miss score.

There are many courses of fire that are being accepted by the NJ State Police, but I posted two of the most popular ones in the original post #1. I made documents for each target type/Qualification and uploaded the documents for all to download/use. They are at the very bottom of the first post.

I also made a handgun ownership affidavit for downy as well. An ownership form is required.

If you need some FBI Q Targets let me know and I'll ship you two. All targets seem to be in short supply as of late due to all the applicants all over the US.

You can take the qual in MD as long as the Instructor is NRA certified and he/she puts their Instructor info on the qualification sheet.

You may have to go to NJ several times to complete the process though.

Judge approved our Permits to Carry. No restrictions.

Permit Cards were not issued today. Judge said the Woodstown State Police Barracks will contact us when the Permit Cards are complete and ready for pickup. Said the process will only take a few days.

There we're approximately 40 people in court for a Permit to Carry. 2 Applicants participated via zoom. The Judge was on a mission due to all of the applicants but was kind and professional.

All that being said, what a neat Courthouse. There is a lot of history at this place.

Built in 1735, this building is the oldest active courthouse in New Jersey and is the second oldest courthouse still in continuous use in the United States. It was expanded in 1818 and 1908.

It was built in 1735 using locally manufactured bricks and was enlarged in 1817 and 1908. It served as the courthouse for Salem County until 1969 when a larger and more modern facility was built for the county. Today it serves as the courthouse for the Salem City Municipal Court.

In 1774, the courthouse was the site of a county petition to King George III to address various colonial grievances and for authorizing county relief to the citizens of Boston to assist them from the King's sanctions from the Boston Tea Party incident. Judge William Hancock of the King's Court of Common Pleas presided at the courthouse. He was later unintentionally killed by British soldiers in the American Revolution during the massacre of Hancock House (New Jersey) committed by the British against local Revolutionary militia during the Salem Raid in 1778. The courthouse was afterwards the scene of the "treason trials" of 1778, wherein suspected Loyalists were put on trial for having allegedly aided the British during the Salem Raid. Four men were convicted and sentenced to death for treason; however, they were pardoned by Governor William Livingston and exiled from New Jersey.

The courthouse is also the site of the legend of Colonel Robert Gibbon Johnson proving the edibility of the tomato. Before 1820, Americans often assumed tomatoes were poisonous. In 1820, Colonel Johnson, according to legend, stood upon the courthouse steps and ate tomatoes in front of a large amazed crowd assembled to watch him do so.

    Are renewals just as bad?

For now renewals are identical to a new application.

The process will change once they start allowing online Applications or if new laws are passed.

I wasn't planning on waiting for the laws to change.

    It's the exact same process.

The AG did say that it would be online in FARS at some point. I can also see the judges being removed from the process. They don't like this extra caseload either.

As a data point, while clandestine is waiting for his, mine was issued. NJSP changed their procedures after FIU wanted the permit mailed back to them in West Trenton. Now the permits go direct to the barracks and then they transmit a copy to FIU for their records (presumably so law enforcement can verify the permit in a stop or other encounter). Also comes with a 2 page order which must be carried with the permit.

NJSP firearms investigation unit. It’s basically their headquarters in Trenton that deals with firearms, including carry applications handled by the state police (out of state residents, rural towns like mine that don’t have a local PD, and armored car security guards). FIU also handles NJ NICS.
