Do you carry at home?

I recently applied for my W&C permit. It will be the first time I've ever had such a permit. Just wondering if most folks that do have a permit tend to carry around their homes or if they tend to only gear up when going out.

Yes, I carry all day every day. The more you carry it, the more you build it into your daily routine. Carry as much as you can whenever you can, IMO.

I did when I first got a permit, to get used to the sensation and to make sure I didn't walk around adjusting it in public. I do it when I get a different holster, to make sure it works for me.

I don't do it regularly now, but will pick something up when my dogs freak out about something outside. So far the the 'something' has always been critters rustling in the leaves or people walking and talking on the other side of the street.

I dont but that does not mean I am ever more than 10 feet from a loaded gun. Plus I live in the woods so no sidewalks and people just dont walk by houses around here.

There is only 1 place a person should feel safe, and that's home. Other than wearing it around the house when you are new to learn for a week or so, is one thing. But if you carry in your house in your holster for home defense, then you have some serious issues. I'm not saying if you have only 1 pistol and you carry it from the living room to the bedroom so it's nearby, that's different.
Get your head checked if you are "packing heat" throughout the house.

I don't know that I'd fully agree with that. I live in a fairly safe area, and generally don't carry all the time, but recently we've had issues with neighbors who have uncontrolled aggressive dogs. So one of us frequently makes sure we have one readily accessible or on our person, especially if our kids are outside. I don't think that qualifies as needing my head checked.

Carrying around the house is a great way to learn how to do it. To learn how to dress around the gun, how to avoid printing, how to avoid your shirt ridding up, etc. All without any consequences for doing it wrong. Spend an entire weekend doing it when you first start carrying and you'll be pretty good at keeping your gun concealed and learning what the best carry position and ride hight/cant is for you.

After that.... if you need to carry inside your house, you should strongly consider moving because your neighborhood sucks.

If you don't need to but do it for fun.... seek help.

Also pro tip .... don't make your practice at home weekend the same as your "heavy yard work" weekend.

I am surprised that homeowners who are afraid of a break in don't get their doors or locks reinforced or get an alarm. The idea is to keep someone out so you don't have to pack heat.

My next rant will be people who pack heat outside because they think they might encounter someone with a gun, but don't have body armor for the encounter.

Funny timing for this. I used to years ago, wen t to sometimes and then never. A few weekends ago, the property owner of the field next to my house cut the grass at the road edge and stupidly blew some grass out on the road. A day or so later 2 guys on motorcycles rode by and then turned around and came up my driveway. I was in my barn with the overhead door up and unfortunately visible from the road. They revved up and stopped about 10 feet from me and didn' t get off the bikes but cussed at me and got sporty over the grass. I eventually got through to them that it wasn't my property and I didn't mow it. They pussied up and slowly left. No apology though.
I felt kinda threatened and was not armed. This was weird and rare for a really rural area, but...
Rethinking options.

I practiced for a few weeks around the house with snap caps. Wanted to build some confidence since I carry loaded and appendix

I carry in my home because I am an FFL that runs a home based firearm business and my address is publicly available. I live in a safe area but my wife and I have received threats based on 1) our involvement/relationships with police departments and 2) I teach how to build black rifles and some people think I'm a bad person for it.

At the end of the day this is very personal decision. If you feel you need, or want too, go ahead. Just don't let folks try to convince you you're wrong for wanting to or not.
