I got approved on Monday and still no permit in the mail.
Me too. Not even the usual pile of junk mail in the box the last 3 days. I’m NOT doing the “informed delivery” thing, I’ll just angrily wait for the post office to surprise me. USPS in my area has been horrendous, my Mother mailed me a Christmas card last year in early November, I finally got it in March of this year, and I live 6 MILES from her. I have zero faith in the USPS.

Just had an 8/5 approval in the tracking thread
His original submission date is probably before everyone else, they are trying to not do the 90 days. So it’s expected when someone doesn’t have their application accepted until their shortages are met that they still get done in a timely manner.

If my acceptance was 8/21, what’s taking so long to even get an NICs #? Any chance I got lost in the mix??
There's always a chance...but, I seriously doubt it. A lot of folks have expressed the same worry and as far as I know none have been harmed. Some folks get it early. Some later. I think I've seen a couple where their NICS was never even updated, and they still got approved. I'm not even sure where the typical NICS date is right now and feel no need to look figure it out because it just doesn't matter. Don't worry, you will get one. It might come tomorrow. Or in a few weeks. It won't change anything.

Thanks. Just seemed odd to have a new investigator assigned a week after the first one.
Maybe just evening out the workload and they shifted you to another investigator. Or an investigator was reassigned and they had to divvy out the apps assigned to them.

My acceptance was 8/15, and I'm still waiting too. Seems like from some of the posts they were on 8/10-8/11 today. Feels like it's taking forever lol

There really is no real pattern with NICS dates that I've been able to tell.
I did five 77Rs from Aug 1st until last week and every one of those have a NICS date and number and none of those expedited the HGP. I know it's different division but it is still a NICS check.
You may get it 1 week prior to approval. Never know

Why VA? They accept all permits
If you frequent VA (i.e. work there, etc) it is advantageous with regard to GFSZA, which has exception for “… individual possessing the firearm is licensed to do so by the State in which the school zone is located”.

Something to consider for anyone who frequents a particular state, as opposed to just passing through.

I am aware. I was just curious as that statute is rarely enforced alone and is usually an add on charge
