I have two, a regular 10/22 carbine and a 22 Charge made into an SBR. Both have been great. Of course, I paid a lot less money for these. Around 2006 I got a my 10/22 carbine and a 4X Bushnel scope for like $220 as Bass Pro. At close to $300 these are not the best deal any more.

Ok - I just crunched the numbers. $200 in 2006 is $283 now. Grab A Gun has the birch wood carbine for $310. So these have out-paced inflation.

    What ammo you using?
Everything from Winchester, Thunderbolts, Remington and even some Montgomery Ward! If I remember correctly, CCI worked the best.
AND thanks for all the info...if I do go 10/22 again, I'll figure on some upgrades other than just the stocks (I'm kind of fumble fingered).

I had a 10/22, and it was ok, but nowhere near as fun, or easy to service as my 15-22. I had a Marlin 795, which was an excellent rifle, just very little aftermarket support and the mags were painful on my thumbs to load repeatedly, but the Marlin was the most accurate of my .22s. I had a Chiappa Rak 22 and a ATI m4-22, both sucked. I have a Marlin 60, which is a nice, accurate rifle, again, just not as fun as the little featherweight 15-22.

Agreed - though I haven’t had problems with my 10/22, I enjoy my 15-22 much more. Don’t know what the current status is with them, but everyone loves it who shoots it.

I've had several over the years with no real problems. You do need to decent ammo in them. Don't go real cheap on ammo.

The 10/22 Charger Pistol with brace, is an amazing gun if you want to give Ruger another try. Personally I don't see the need for another semi auto 22, but I find bolt actions fun and interesting.

The 10/22’s of today are not close to the quality of 10/22 from 20 years IMO. Have owned both.
I would disagree. The first gun I ever bought was a standard wood stock 10/22 carbine in 1988 at Best Products in Rockville.
The second one I bought was a 50th Anniversary model with the stainless threaded barrel and a synthetic stock. Both rifles run like a top.

Best Products in RV sold rifles? hahaha. My parents live in Twinbrook and I grew up there. I used to hit that store, W Bell where Guitar Center is now and down by White Flint at Evans Jewelers. Near Lionell Kiddy City.

Sad.... And GD Graffittis, Mothers Pizza, sigh. Thanks brother, now I am depressed. :P and chesapeake bay seafood house all you can eat. Yes I cooked at that Rustler Steak House in Twinbrook.

The Windchester Widlcat is supposed to be really good.

They have been…ok. The lightweight stock is kinda flimsy (torques the barrel with a sling, sometimes breaks at the built in studs), the aperture sights are no better than the TCR, and Ruger mag compatibility isn’t as good as TCR either. I don’t have one, but I don’t think I will buy one either.

Friend of mine briefly worked at that Rustler steakhouse, I remember when it burned to the ground.

You got Ruger’s No Warranty Warranty and Repair Service so even if you boogered and bubba’d them, Ruger will repair them to current specs for a reasonable service fee.

Problems with a Ruger? Contact their customer service and send it for repair...they're the best customer service of any gun manufacturer out there, by far. My 10/22 had problems, and they took care of me and never charged me a dime.

Most of my adult life I thought I needed a 10/22. Everybody had them! I got one on a nice deal. I took it to the range and thought 'Meh'. "Oh, but they are so customizable!" they said. Now why in the hell would I-should I dump hundreds of dollars into customizing a much-ballyhooed gun? A .22, no less. I sold it and moved on.
I own a 10/22 for much the same reason. A buddy of mine got one when he was a teenager and still has it. He talked it up a lot when we were kids too, so when I stumbled into a good deal on a used 10/22 Deluxe, I snagged it. Like you, I got it to the range and thought, "meh" - it's ok, but frankly, I think my Grandpa's 1913 vintage Winchester 1890 is more fun to shoot. I've kept it around because I always figured that I'd throw money at it to mod it at some point. For now, it just sits there in the safe. Maybe I'll sell it.

I bought a 10/22 around 2010, it worked, ended up selling it because I didn't need it anymore. Decent little rifle. About 4 years ago, I got a heavy barreled, laminate stock version from Proven Outfitters for a decent price. Was going to shoot the precision rimfire matches at Quantico. Shot the match once, haven't gone back. It's a great, accurate rifle, just don't have the gumption to shoot that kind of match anymore.

I (or, rather, my kid) shoot high volumes of garbage Fed Automatch through my 10/22s with almost zero problem (other than the oddball stovepipe, which is 100% the ammo since Mini-Mags don't do that). One of them is a new TCR-22, the other is a beat-to-shit consignment 10/22 I bought for $200. I strongly recommend swapping the trigger group to a BX/Kidd/VQ, going to the VQ reduced strength recoil spring/CH, and maybe an extractor upgrade if you're having problems. These are very simple rifles, there's not really a lot to screw up.

BX-25 magazines do not work very well in my experience, and inevitably are a source of problems when I see them in use. I own seven. None of them are reliable enough for match use due to ammo being fed too low and hitting the front of the feed lips. The "shell fix" doesn't really help with that enough. I have been experimenting with a 3D printed bushing with tighter tolerances, but haven't quite gotten it to where it needs to be. IMHO, these magazines have a defective design and Ruger probably knows it, which is a shame, because the magazines themselves are otherwise fairly high quality in terms of build.

(It sounds like the OP had a bad trigger group in rifle #1 (or incorrectly assembled), and a bad magazine catch in #2.)
