In this instance ,it's the data best presented to burnish the image of the FBI as the leading authority on LE technology . Just like their endorsement of .40 (10mm Lite) .

The FBI has its own specific set of criteria for ammunition to meet...which may or may not be what an individual or other law enforcement agency needs. The FBI's decision is not the be all and end all of ammunition...it's simply what they believe best suits the requirements which are a series of compromises...penetration vs expansion vs cost vs performance against auto glass or other obstructions vs controllability vs reliability.

An individual or there law enforcement agency choosing what the FBI uses is not a bad starting point but not necessarily what's best for that individual's specific needs. Just the same as the military...they have their own requirements.

What , no love for the M1937 ?

For that matter , dual cylinder Blackhawk ?

    My late #1 shooting & handloading partner had FA M83 with .454 . .45C . AND .45acp cylinders .

Very nice. A USP 45 Tactical is on my wish list.

Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk

    Shooting &Hunting partner #2 swears by USP .45 . For me it shoots fine , but not " better " , and I couldn't justify the $$ .

But if You like it best , by all means go for it .

I’ll get some eventually and pay the silly prices. I really like engineering/science, and H&K over-engineers everything. They have been a very innovative manufacturer. They don’t put out crap. Ever.

    But they Hate you .

    Indeed.

However, I have to infer that the FBI has it’s agents’ best interests at heart. Not that they need my endorsement, but based on available data, I agree with them

FBI * most* wants to burnish their image both to the general public . and the overall LE Community .

And in doing so . be sure to issue their Agents equipment that is Not Terrible , and generally suitable for task .

The thing is, they're fascinating examples of design, both P7 and P9s. That's what attracted me to them. And they'll never ever be made again.

Back circa 1990 had an opportunity for a P7 at a good price , just didn't have the $ at that moment

Yeah, saw my first at Atlantic in Silver Spring when dinosaurs roamed. I thought it was pretty cool, but the money wasn't there.

Thankfully, I found a couple commercial examples a year before the German police surplused all theirs. In retrospect, I shouldn't have sneered at the ex-polizei guns; could have bought a bunch for 600 apiece, and sold them for 400% profit later.

    Hindsight is annoying.

Impossible question to really answer without some information on intended usage. As a competitive shooter, I tend to lean towards guns like the 625JM/PC (IDPA REV), BUL SAS II (3gun heavy), Cosaint COS11 (USPSA SS / IDPA CDP), etc.

The unfortunate (?) reality is that 45 Auto has fallen heavily out of favor in the past decade, and a lot of the more interesting guns have ceased manufacture (including 2/3 of the guns I just listed).

The SAR K2 is a reasonable facsimile of the CZ-97, but I don't think it's 100% parts compatible. I enjoyed mine, but got rid of it when I standardized on the M-5 / SAS II for my 45 Auto needs.

According to the FBI, no difference between modern defensive 9mm and 45 ACP ammo in terms of incapacitation. 9mm give advantages including weight, size and capacity.
This is pure unadulterated horse hockey. In all the movies, hits from a 9mm barely slow the bad guy down while those from a 45 will cause them to do a double axel or a back flip.

    For accuracy:
    - S&W 625-6 .45 ACP Mag-na-ported
    - New Vaquero Convertible 45 ACP/Colt

While I've always admired the triggers on 1911s, I've never enjoyed shooting them. I recently starting to think about doing a SRT and replacing the trigger on my (German made) SIG P220 and picking up a couple of extended 10 round OEM mags.

Best 45 ACP, money no object. 1911 or other full size……go
    I love 45ACP !
    I have a M.R. Desert Eagle 1911, a R.I.A. G.I. Standard, a S&W M&P 2.0, a Springfield XDS 4.0 and a Charter Arms Pitbull, all in 45 ACP.
If I could only have one for all reasons considered (concealabilty, accuracy, dependability and accessories) it would be XD-S !
