Can a grandparent (not living in MD) gift a long gun to a MD resident or would it need to go through an FFL?
I thought it had to go through an FFL because of different states, I think the only exception to this is inheritance.
Just want to make sure I'm passing along correct info to a friend.

If Granddad's gun is old enough to be C&R, your friend should apply for an FFL03 (C&R license) so he can receive it directly. The $30 application fee is cheaper than a lot of FLs are charging for transfers these days, and it saves a trip to the FFL's shop.

I thought that might be an option (the gun is definitely old enough) but I don't see him collecting C&R stuff. He's not a gun guy, well at least not yet lol. Thanks for the info, I'll pass it along.

Even if he never buys another gun, if it saves time and money on this transaction, it's paid for itself.

I’m in Jessup and will handle the transfer for cheap. Just don’t tell anyone. I will also accept the firearm directly from you so you don’t need an ffl to ship it.
