    .45 moves too slow.

If Han had a .45 and Greedo had a .40, Greedo would have been able to fire after Han did and still kill him first.
    Greedo shot first

    40 is still gey.
No min on carry. Freestate would not let you qualify with a 22 as part of policy. I questioned them on it since I was planning on using one due to an injury. They said no.
But that was early on when they limited the classes to less than 1k people

*****I have had a student in my classes tell me that .45 moves too slowly, and whether he should consider using 9mm or .40 S&W to minimize the chances of somebody ducking or DODGING the bullet.... :shocked4:

You know how they say there are NO stupid questions, so please just ask your questions as others may have the same question?

Pretty sure this dudes question was uniquely qualified as being a bit out there....I really really wanted to tell him .45 was fine to use as long as you used the "pointy nosed faster bullets" vs. the slower "not pointy bullet things that are flat on both ends, or are kinda flat and have a little hole at the front that catches the wind more and slows it down..".... but I resisted and answered his question more tactfully because I'm a tactical kind of guy.

Below are some pics of bullet dodges, *clearly* all .45's being dodged versus faster stuff, as well as a pic of an old Dodge that was already too slow and old to even dodge .45's and is shot up a bit....

There's Physics involved in all of this! And Physics is basically science if you ask a scientist, or magic if you ask a caveman, or something related to Covid deaths if you ask Dr. Anthony Fauci !

*Trust* the science! Because it's science!!! And uhhh.. keep asking questions! And work on your Dodges!!! :innocent6:

    Lol.

Tell him it moves much faster than a baseball bat, and ask him if he wants to try to dodge while you take a swing at him.

My instructor mentioned in our training class that a .380 was the smallest caliber legal to carry in Maryland. Is there actually a rule stating this or is it more of a guideline? I apologize if this has been answered before but I couldn't locate anything using the search function.
visit the "What did you learn at your Wear & Carry" thread. there is a lot of good posts in there where someone shares what they "learned" and then follow up posts correcting the information with actual cites for what the laws actually are.

I could have swore I read somewhere that the wear and carry accuracy test requires that you use at least .380, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere now. Maybe I was just dreaming…

As Occam said, you can carry as big or as small as you like. Be it .22 or .223- not that either of those are particularly advisable.

No , the W&C does not have a minimum caliber . Nor is their a minimum caliber to carry *

Perhaps the " Professional * W&C , for private detectives , armed security , etc does , but not the W&C for regular Joe & Josie Public .

If he was expressing an Opinion and Recommendation , .380 & up would be in line with a large body of thought .

    * The statutes do specify Handgun , so presumably it would need to meet Md's definition of Handgun . ie Propelled by action of an explosive , so air guns would then be out . Muzzleloaders and pre 1899 are also exempted from definition of Handgun . Wether or not the instructor would research the s/n on your SAA , New Service , Lemonsqueezer , or Owl Head is a different question .

There's nothing wrong with your .40S&W. More power than a 9mm, more mag capacity than a .45. The worst part is telling your parents that you're...never mind.
Or less power than .45 ( or 10mm) , while having less capacity than 9mm . ( Mostly funning with you ) :)

Depends entirely on whether and how you accessorize it. If you're looking at it and thinking, "Wow, imagine the shoe shopping opportunities that would come with getting the right belt for this!" then you're coming at it from a different place. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course.
Is that worse than asking if that shade of FDE or OD goes with my camo suspenders ?

I shot the qualification with my Glock 19 but I brought along my Ruger MKII specifically for the wife of my son's friend to use.
I helped her and 2 others all qualify with that, no problem.

I heard .50 cal was the smallest allowed. :innocent0

OP, you are not bound by any certain caliber to carry, i might believe some classes require .380 and up. I have always qualified with a M&P .40 the ghey load, but beware other men will wink at you while on the range.

When I decide to enroll in one, I'm going to try to avoid the ones that have additional rules beyond what the state mandates (bring an OWB holster, at least 200rds, stuff like that). And I'll likely shoot the qual with my TX-22.
I'm ok with the bare minimum for a W&C class, I'm paying for the paper.

Mr Brute just summed up the whole conundrum right there !

( Of students whom know which end the projectile exits , and can usually not shoot themselves in the foot ) Half of them just want to check off their Poll Tax with minimum hassle and further expense . The other half think By Damn , if I'm paying $$ and 16 hrs of my life , I want some advanced tactical training .

Different Instructors run the gammet in approach , but matching both sides is very. Hapzard .
