I used a phone app called ID Photo. Allows you to edit to change background and sizing. Accepted by MSP first shot!
Very easy to use. Took my selfie sitting in my recliner. No need for blank wall, etc.

MSP let's you upload a photo from your phone, no program needed. You get to edit/crop it on their website.

Just take your photo against a wall(white background),don't smile and upload it.

Now if its for other FL CCW or Utah, you will need actual passport photos, no way around those.

Not true, at least not for renewals. My wife and I used the same technique you described for our Utah permit renewals. We took photos in front of a white door and uploaded them to Utah's web site. I don't know if the initial ones can be done that way now or not.

ETA: sorry... just saw rseymorejr beat me to it.

Take a selfie, crop it on your phone, then upload it to MSP. Takes about 2 minutes total.

My son took a picture of me standing in our bathtub, as that’s the only white wall we have. Cropped it while in the application in the MSP Portal. Could not have been easier.
