Hi, I posted this originally in the Gun show thread, because I bought this Kalashnikov style shotgun from at the Oaks gun show. But someone suggested it might be better to post here: I'm super new to shotguns and bought this one new from Bay Silah Firearms out of Hagerstown. I got it home and found some light rust on it, and that I can't get the dust cover open. The release seems to be fixed on to the dust cover itself, will not depress, and there is a bit of metal there that looks like it was welded. But admittedly I don't understand this well. I'd appreciate any advice on this. I've tried to contact the company and they're not responding, there was no owners manual.

That small tack weld needs to be filed or dremeled down. Then I can’t tell from the picture what the thing on top is. Hopefully it’s a removable or it pushes down. At least on my AK I have to push the retainer in past flush with the cover to remove it.
It may be a bad fit so they put that tack weld on to keep it from rattling around?

I'm not sure if it was a bad fit, I literally can't get it to move. I got my friend to try as well, who knows shotguns a lot better than I do, and he couldn't get it to budge either.

Yes your first picture looks to be a tack weld. It’s very small so a file or demel should make quick work of it.

All right thank you I'll pick one up today and give it a try. İt's tricky because it seems welded in the crack and hard to reach.

It doesn’t look like a traditional Ak style. Does it just lift up or is there a pin somewhere.

Is there a manufacturer website for contact? Are there any other mysterious levers or buttons? I’m trying to figure out or imagine if there’s anything extra in that shotgun version of an AK that serves to break it down.

Doesn't look like a weld. Looks like a ball detent.
Some of the Kalashnikov USA KS12 shotguns appear to have the same button thing. Go find it's owners manual or a video.

Jump to 45sec. Your ball detents aren't pulling in or something. Did you soak them in oil? After oiling, while holding down the button, try to pry them in w/ a small screwdriver or something.

Thanks a lot for your advice. Ok I soaked it in CLP while pushing as this man showed. But it doesn't move and it does look like there is a small metal welded bit you can see in the top right corner of the spring guide here. That seems to be what's stopping it. The manufacturer is the guy who sold it to me, it seems, or at least theirs is the only name on the gun. They aren't responding to any way I contact them, so it might be the case they had some defective guns they were trying to pawn off on people at the gun show. I'm going to try to return it before prying it open because who knows what else is going on inside.

There is a good chance that congealed preserative is keeping the spring guide rod from going forward. Heat it up with a hair dryer and see if it frees up. I would heat it through the ejection port so that the rod and spring get some heat. This won't hurt the steel but will soften the preservative.

Silah appears to be a line of Turkish made AK style shotguns. If you bought it from a dealer based in Hagerstown it is almost certain they are an importer, not the manufacturer.

They probably named their business after the product they are importing.

What you see as the name of the manufacturer is probably an import mark.

I kinda want to see this thing in person.

I wouldn’t worry right now, function check it, run a 12ga bore snake through the barrel and take it to the range. Just don’t plan on shooting trap with it you’ll get some funny looks.
