Wrong. This is a ridiculous thought.
Let me ask you something. When they run ballistics on everything and find out that they weren't Speer Gold dots or whatever manufactured brand, what you going to say then?
You don't think you'll be asked? Or not find out?
Carry your over hot loads and do you.
I said DON’T carry handloads. I want to show I’m using factory ammo purchased for protection in extreme circumstances, not something they can paint as homebrew fantasy killer bullets.

That's different. We are talking about two different things.

In one situation, we were talking about modifying your gun to make it work better for you. Whether that's putting a different mag release on there, swapping out the sights, stippling, etc. Some people think doing that gives prosecutors ammunition against you because you were modifying your gun to make it more deadly. I don't think that's literally ever been used in court and frankly I think it's preposterous.

On the other hand, having a dust cover that says "you're dead, bitch" or something may go more to the state of mind of the shooter rather than being brought up because it was a modification to the gun.

Also, as to the original idea, this is literally the worst idea I've ever heard. No offense.

I said carry your handloads. It doesn't matter.

It's more of the Massad dribble.... you should only carry local LE rounds blah blah.

Lethal force is lethal force. If you are justified in shooting them, you are justified in dropping a 5 ton anvil on them or tossing them in a vat of acid. A "124 grain hot load" isn't going to change the legality of the shooting.

I'm not so fast to dismiss the handloads comment but I expand it to "carry nothing custom". I recall a prosecutor some time ago who tried to railroad a homeowner who used an AR with some kind of custom Black Rain dust cover which said something obscene or threatening. Tried to claim he "wanted to kill someone" or whatever. My details are fuzzy.

    Yes its some BGOS
Are you thinking of the police officer who had, "You're ******" on his AR ejection port cover and that was part of what got him fired?

"An internal investigation report revealed that Brailsford had violated department weapon policy by engraving his patrol rifle with the phrases "You're ******" and "Molon labe" (a Greek expression meaning "come and take it")"

I think that the optimal answer for carrying upgraded firearms and/or ammo is that the carrier wanted to improve his potential accuracy and minimize the chances of harming innocent folks.

I don't know man, it is up there pretty high lol. We already get made fun of enough, can you imagine us all around the town wearing bodycams? People would literally think we were insane, and they might not be wrong at that point lol.

    Terrible idea.

I am well experienced and I am VERY confident of my skills and abilities should I get into a thing. However, when something like a shooting gets scrutinized WITHOUT video, any little error I make, I will leave it up to the investigators and evidence collection unit. I do not need to have a camera on me to help them out.
Just as a video could help you, it can also bury you.
We can change the "Don't talk to the police" comment to " Don't communicate to the police".

You'll talk to the police 3 times... 911, responding officers, and an investigator. There will be video out there. Let them find it and draw their conclusions.
The police do not just get a video from you, just like when you have a car videocam. They have to get your permission or subpoena. If you are wearing a bodycam it is best if it is discreet and not visible. So we are talking high tech, expensive stuff. Maybe a cam attached to your glasses. But again, something inconspicuous that police shouldn't know about. Then you ca choose to use it or not in your defense. anyway, not sure this is a viable option unless u got one of those shirt button thingy you see in movies.

Unless you're taken into custody, which entails a search, which will discover the body camera on your person, which becomes part of the evidence...

better have some strong encryption on that bodycam so they can't view it without the crypto key. We are in fantasy land now so I can continue to fantasize...

So if you record it on your phone, you think the police are going to let you keep that phone and come and get it in a few days from you with a search warrant?

Or do you think the police will take possession of the phone and then get a search warrant prior to searching your phone?
